Paint engine bay black?

I'm thinking of painting my car red, but painting the underhood black, along with the engine bay. What do you think? I think it'll look cleaner, and add to the whole black/red contrast scheme.

No... don't do it. There are so many things you have to remove and/or tape off, etc. My engine bay was painted black and boy whoever did missed a bunch of spots, left drip marks and painted over headlight relays.

My mitsu is all black and i painted the motor back and red, But the car was already black so i didn't have to paint the bay just the motor. Oyeah, if you get carb cleaner on the paint it will come off.

well yeah, i would paint the engine bay black, but i wouldn't paint every little piece in there black :) a black/chrome theme would look sweet with a bit of blue ^_^

Take as much as you can out, and wrap aluminum foil over all of the wires and plugs and such. Over the summer a bunch of us painted my friend's hatch (well I helped sand and scuff the paint anyways), and it turned out really nice. Just take your time, it will probably take a good part of a day to do it all.

i did it when the engine was out....I didnt bother taping anything....my paint gun is very accurate .....Ive painted some engine bays with engines still in....just use a touch up gun, or a airbrush.

i painted my engine bay black with the engine out. the car is going to be white and i have a CF hood

of course, the car is dusty because we have been doing bodywork on it for a while, but when it cleans up itll be fine. oh, and ive redone all the wire harnesses in black since then, cause im trying to go for that "floating engine" effect

No don't do it.

1. Why would you want the engine bay to contrast with the outside of the car? I think it will look cheap.

2. Stop copying my colour scheme. (color for you Yanks)

Did you guys spray it with rattle can? Im thinking of doing this myself until I fully paint the car. I'm just wanting to know how it will come out.

1. I don't want it to contrast the outside, I want the engine to stand out, and plus half the engine bay was spray painted black anyway.

2. I don't go to sleep at night laughing to myself how I copied your color scheme.

Not that great of a shot cause it's not a top view:

You want you engine to stand out!? You have bright red DOHC valve cover, do you not? People who can't notice that, don't really matter in the car world.

The colour scheme comment was a joke, but since you're being bitchy, if you paint the inside of your hood with the outside different it's going to look stupid and thats the truth.

I thought about doing it untill I saw some other cars with it done, just looks like the car was originally black and they didnt feel like/have the money to paint the engine bay.

DOOOOO it. If your engine bay is like mine, its pink now instead of red, black would look much better.
