Well, other than attaching the mirrors and license plate (both are currently drying) this one is a done deal.

The rear wing was put in the parts box, leaving a nice clean rear end.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/billyvia/skyline/nismo_ztune_04.jpg

This was my first Aoshima kit and my first JDM car as well. Both experiences leave me wanting more as Aoshima did a great job on capturing this Skyline.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/billyvia/skyline/nismo_ztune_01.jpg

As stated in the WIP thread, the paint is Tamiya TS-17 over Tamiya white primer and smothered in Nason(PPG) 2-part automotive clear.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/billyvia/skyline/nismo_ztune_03.jpg

During assembly I filled in the front license plate housing with plastic cardstock to get a clean front end look and left of the GTR badge for the same reason. Decals went on with no problems. In fact the ONLY problem I had with this kit was self inflicted. While attaching the front left side headlight cover I slipped out of my hands and hit the floor. Much like the age old "Don't anyone move, I've lost a contact!" scenario, the first thing I heard when I stood up to look for it was *crunch*!!! It split in 2 ;-( The complexity of the piece left me no choice but to glue it back together, sand, polish and then paint it gloss black. Oh well...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/billyvia/skyline/nismo_ztune_06.jpg

From the above shot, you can't even tell...;-)>

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/billyvia/skyline/nismo_ztune_05.jpg

Exhaust was made by mating aluminum tubing to the plastic muffler. Aoshima has engineered the rear taillights in a way that makes them incredibly realistic and easy to assemble.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v633/billyvia/skyline/nismo_ztune_07.jpg

Brakes were replaced with self-cast Tamiya Brembos and decals applied to the calipers. Left over PE pieces were used for the discs and everything was washed in black. The air outlets were ground out and some left over Tamiya mesh installed.

Now that this one is on the shelf, I'm thinking I need to try one of Tamiya's R34's...of course there is the Top Secret R34 recently released also...hmmm

Thanks for looking!

Bill

Very fantastic work! One of the cleanest and best executed close-to-stock builds I've seen yet. Gorgeous paintwork on that thing. If you dig the Skyline, I would suggest very much building the Tamiya one. From all the pictures I've seen, the Aoshima seems a bit out of proportion: everything below the waist line looks a little too big, and everything above, a little too small. The Tamiya kit does a better job capturing the proportions. Nevertheless, your build is fantastic! Anyone would be proud to have that on their shelf.

I'm impressed! I would have never thought it would look good without the wing myself. I do have a question for you. I have the same model but with the "Active Suspension." Is yours the same one? I haven't built it yet so I can't compare the ride height to yours.

Not sure. It came with small black springs for the front, but I ended throwing all that in the parts bin and making shocks from aluminum tubing and wire for the springs. The ride height was set using the wire springs, compressed until I felt it was just about right, and then supergluing the inner tubing to the outer in the shock.

hth and thanks for the comments!

Thanks!

Nope, although in hindsight (due to the satin plating being removed here and there because of my rough handling) they probably should have been...

Hmmm, gotta check mine now. With my S15 with active suspension, it came with functional springs set up so you can actually push the model down and it will come back up. The down side is that it came with 18in wheels and with the body on the chassis, there is no more room for movement. I'll take some pics of Skyline soon and show you what I mean.

THANK YOU STEVE!

Wasn't sure if that was an actual third brakelight or an indention that was unused on the NISMO ver.

I'll take care of that asap!

and thanks to everyone who looked!
