I am in the process of buying a 99' mitsubishi eclipse rs, 5-speed, 78k miles, all stock, perfect interior/exterior, for $4,500? and also , does it have potential to gain some hp w/ some bolt-on parts( basic things; headers, exhaust, intake)? i would really appreciate your opinions. thanx.

decent deal. it doesnt have a whole lot of cheap potential though. check out the tuning guide at dsmtuners.com. it will still be kinda quick but a stock gst/gsx will still slaughter it

sure its a great deal!! depends on the condition. have it checked out.
sure it has some potential for a car with a little pep. intake, exahust being a manual it won't be dog slow. but its never cheaply going to be a fast car.

and if you cry about, or even ask about crank walk i will hunt you down!!!
:) have a nice day

for that year and mileage assuming nothing major is wrong, that's a great price.
for the horsepower - it all depends on how much you want out of it, you could do all the small mods like (headers, exhaust) and maybe a self port&polish job which will give you a little more flow. that should give you a few more ponies, but if you really wanna make if fast you're gonna have to build yourself a motor to handle some boost and throw on a turbo.

sounds like a very decent deal considering the year and mileage. I'd just ask for some records on oil-changes... mileage isnt the best yardstick to go by when considering the overall condition of the engine at least. A car can be dogged down with just 15K miles from the factory, or can last you over 200K on the same motor.

So yeah, I would request some jiffy lube reciepts or something....imo.
