Where to find a bigger alternator?

I'm most likely going to need a bigger alternator for my car for the new amp I'm putting in this spring, but I can't seem to find a decent site to look at some. Maybe I'm not searching for the right stuff, but I need some help. Looking for at least 130 amps. Any help is appreciated.

u most likely won't need a bigger alternator.....you might need a bigger battery but i would try getting a capacitator. if that doesn't do it then try getting one of those optima yellow top batteries.

Capacitors are crap. I've been reading up on an audio forum and I'll basically need a new alternator. Already have a bigger battery (though I may still need a bigger one).
By the way, anyone know what the stock alternator is rated at? I'm assuming 90 amps.

well I don't know what audio form that you're on but everyone that I know that has a capacitator, it works awesome for them. you'll most likely need a bigger battery because the reason the alternator is on the car is to charge the battery when the battery supply gets to a point low enough that it cannot supply the car with the power it needs so then the alternator kicks in, otherwise it's the battery that actually feed's the car with the "voltage" it needs.
the stock alternator is rated at 75 amps (u.s)

CarAudio.com - Basically the capacitor is looked at like a bandaid because the rest of your electrical system isn't set up correctly.
Anyways, I'd still like to find a site to be able to check some of these out.

Wasn't sure if I had to get one made for an Eclipse or if they are just all generic and it doesn't matter.

any capicator should work, it just takes power from the battery and puts it out to the amp (but in a little more defined way, haha )

I meant alternator, I know about the capacitors :)

I'm pretty sure you'll have to get a different alternator made or at least order a special one. sorry about the mix-up, i'm having a long day . :bricks1:

Ohio Generator - the best high-output alternators you can buy, call them, if you can think it, they can build it http://www.ohiogen.com/

That'd probably be expensive. Aren't there just generic 130 amp or higher alternators in stock somewhere?

Some galants have 90 amp alternators that physically bolt up and plug in. Any higher and you are looking at making your own brackets and all that BS I'm sure.

I believe it's the canadian models, if that helps. I also don't think you need a new alternator. There are quite a few cars out there with large systems, and unless you are breaking world records, will do fine.

4alterstart.com has good HO alternators.

Iam not sure where you are looking at about cap's either. I have a friend that just finished car audio school and that if you are running a huge system then a cap is just fne. I mean if a cap is a bandage then what is a bigger alternator? I think a bigger battery and a cap or 2 ( depending on how many amps you have running ) then you'll be fine. My friend is running 2 1200 watt amps with 2 caps and a stock alternator and his car is fine. Plus for the money I would rather have a cap. But that's just my opinion.

the difference between a cap or big battery and a bigger alternator is this.
a car runs off the alternator once its started. it only uses the battery to start the car. after its running the extrat amps from the alternator are used to recharge the battery.
a car with a large enough system wont have enough amps left to charge the battery. its possible to actually draw enough that the car wont run.
another problem is that a audio systems load isnt constant. this is what caps are for. a capacitor is used to store a extra hit of power for when the sub hits hard and draws a lot of power for a short period of time. without a cap or larger battery your headlights and guages will dim and the car may stall.
caps are often used as bandaids but they do have a valid use.
my suggestion would be to have your alternator tested at autozone or someplace and make sure that its good. some parts stores carry higher then stock output alternators, but a stock one will probably fit your needs if its in good shape.

So my mom brought my car to get the alternator put in (I'm at school, couldn't do it myself if I wasn't anyways) today only to tell me the original is still in because "the car started to smoke." Not really sure what was smoking, but I'm pissed that something isn't right. I emailed the company and they said it's the right one and was tested before it was shipped. Basically gave me an RMA number and also said to have it checked out locally first if I could. Not really sure what could be wrong with the car to cause this if the one they sent me isn't bad. I also haven't seen any other place to get one from.

ummmmm the stock amps for an eclipse is 90 amps... and for a good amp you need a good alt.... the battery and cap will not do shit if your alt cant push the amps that your amps are pushing... the key word is that you need 10 amps for every 100 watts.....

All a cap does is store energy. It won't make your bass sound better.
Basicaly when your amp needs more power than the car can handle, it draws it from the cap. The only time you will be using your cap is when your amp needs more current. Other than that it won't give your amp power. A bigger alternator will cover all basses (pardon the pun). IT will give more power and a stiffer bigger ( ) constant car voltage.
And yes it is 10 amps for every 100 watts.
So you have a engine fan, headlights, air conditioning, power locks/windows, windshield wipers, aftermarket cd player, interior lights, whatever size sub amp, and any other accesories will draw ampheres (amps) from the alternator. So at if you think you are getting 90 amps into your system, you are wrong.
getting two batteries won't help either. Your stock car alternator wasn't made to charge 2 batteries. If your car can barely keep up with one battery, what make you think it can charge 2 with the other accesories? Your gonna fry your alternator to hell faster. So of course a bigger alt. will have no problem doing that.
