Peel of masking tape

Hi!
I have just painted a VW Golf, and used masking tape to make some flames on the side. Tha paint is now so dry that I can touch it without getting paint on my fingers or leaving marks. But I guess it's not 100% dry since it's just 2 hours since i painted it. (Spray paint).
Can i peel of the tape now? Or may this leave some ugly marks in the edges?

Although i have never used masking tape with a spray can i would reccomend leaving it for at least 5 hours just to avoid any major catastrophies

Actually the longer you leave the paint to dry the harder it will be to remove the tape clearly.

Personally, I remove masking tape between 10 and 20 minutes after I spray, I certainly wouldn't wait 2 hours, let alone 5 or more.

If you've waited 2 hours, I recommend you remove the tape immediately and extremely carefully.

what masking tape do you guys use?
do you all use the tamiya tape or just stuff from the diy store?
every time i go into B&Q i see all types of masking tape and the low tack one (the name) appeals bu it doesn't feel like it's sticky enough to really seal against painting.
then there's the blue £m tape that is quite expensive.

at the moment, i'm just using, very carefully, normal 3M masking tape (the biege one).
no scares yet.....

I use strictly Tamiya masking tape, it's the best stuff I've used although there is one other brand I know comes highly recommended but the name escapes me right now.

True. With Tamiya paint, masking should be removed in the first hour.

It's tricky, but help the paint to not crack when you remove the tape.

I use Tamiya masking tape for fine details like the window trim, and use a no-name brand masking tape that I bought from the Dollar Tree (for a dollar) for general areas.

He is Norwegian so I take it English isnt his first language. I agree it was a bit hard to read but just about understandable.

On the masking issue, like Ray said masking is best removed before paint dries too much. I also only use Tamiya tape.

I've been using regular masking tape for years, but just got some 3M and Tamiya tape and I'll see how they work. R/C painters swear by the 3M stuff, and if the Tamiya tape is what I think it is (Similar to the material they include for window masks in R/C bodies) then it should be great stuff too.

Don't forget to use a new blade to cut yourself an edge, and never rely on the edge of the tape as it comes off the roll: Lint and stuff gets stuck in it and will befoul your paint job.

Indeed,

It's very important to remove the masking tape as soon as possible. I've learnt it the hard way. On more than one occasion I forgot to remove the masking tape, and as a result of it, the paint came off with the masking tape :banghead:

Diction maybe? I dunno, have you tried some translation websites? Sometimes the results are funny, but it might help.

My mom had the same problem, to a lesser degree: She grew up in Ireland, and at that time there, the only subject that was taught in english was English, everything else was in Irish. So, once in a while, she would run across something and only know the Irish word for it.

I removed the tape too late... not good. Hehe :)
Guess I have to re-spray the whole body and mask it "The other way" this time to make the flames (Or some other cool pattern etc.).
