S12 Silvia progress

Yes that's right, S12. Sold as a Silvia in the UK and Gazelle (!) in other countries, and with either a 1.8 Turbo or 2.0 16v engine, these were pretty popular over here during the eighties.

A friend of mine ran one as a road rally car a couple of years ago, so this is being built as a replica of his old car. It comes with a horrific bodykit that I binned and a late model bonnet with vent. I need to scratch a new rear spoiler (my friends was a black rubber affair) and make a flat bonnet but otherwise that's about it.

Just a couple of progress shots for now:

Traditional primer shots

Nissan Starburst Silver paint

Test fitted to the body with standard wheels, paint is yet to be lacquered and polished.

I'll have to check my old HLJ invoices.......1500 Yen, but I had to wait quite a while for it to come in stock. It's an Aoshima kit.

I need to do the interior next, but my airbrush is giving me grief so may just spray the chassis while I'm figuring it out.

Looks awesome!! I'm starting to get back into my eighties collection. I'll be keeping an eye on this project and ebay/HLJ so I can pick one up for myself!!

I've applied a coat of lacquer to bring out the silver, but I don't want this model to be too shiny. My friends car wasn't very shiny, so neither will the kit be!

Anyone know where I can get very fine black and red pinstripes to run the length of the car?

Looking at the pictures I have of the car, I notice it had black sideskirts. Will have to make these from strip styrene and tack them on later with superglue.

Here's the real car:

Note the following:

Different wheels - anyone know where I can get ugly lattice ones like this?

Black and red pinstripes - might struggle to find any that fine

Sideskirts and rear arch spat - easy enough and can be added later

Grey bumper inserts and grey rubber spoiler

Leon L, did you notice that it seems like this kit was made to come with an engine? I noticed last night when I was looking at the parts and the kit includes a turbo and a brake booster, but no master cylinder to go with it. And if you look under the hood on the chassis there is some engine bay details. Just seems wierd to me.

Yup, plus mine also came with two bonnets (hoods) - one clear and one solid. :sly:

Oh, and two different types of taillamp, option for headlamps up or down, two different grilles, two different wheel options, different seat options, two different petrol tanks...... not bad!

Cool, I had no idea they did a saloon version. All ours were fastbacks in the UK.

Sorry for the lack of progress, I suffered a tarantula bite last week and lost some mobility in my right hand. It feels a lot better now so I can carry on.

The body is basically done except for the bonnet, need to pop into town for some plasticard to remake it without the bulge.

D_LaMz, some interior shots, particularly of the door cards would be useful if you wouldn't mind, thanks :)
