Flasher making clicking noise

I have a 98 Blazer and the flasher keeps making a clicking noise. I noticed on some other threads that the mulit-function switch is the problem. Instead of fixing that I was wondering if anyone knew if they make a flasher that doesn't make that clicking noise when you turn your turn signal on or if there was a way to by pass the flasher.

Are you saying that the flasher makes noise even when the turn signal is not on? The Flashing unit is supposed to click when the turn signal is on. If you have a bad Multi-Function switch, you will usually see some other type of electrical malfunction such as turn signals that don't work etc. Shop around and see if you can find a quiet flasher, but I wouldn't try to bypass anything on these newer vehicles as the smell of burning insulation and frying wires tends to screw up you whole day.

Yes, the flasher makes a noise even when the turn signal is not on. Everything seems to be working ok.

You just might get off easy with a new flasher. Try swapping the flasher out for a new one and see if it solves your problem.

I tried a new flasher drom Autzone and it did the same thing.

That is too odd. Please describe in detail exactly when it makes the clicking noise. Is it constant, or only under certain conditions? Please be as descriptive as possible including, how loud it is, does it get louder then softer? etc.

The clicking noise is very spuratic. It seems to have no rhyme or reason when it makes that noise. The noise sounds like you have your turn signal on but it is not on and the lights don't flash when the flasher makes that noise. The turn signals do flash when I turn the lever on.

You can buy one that plays "Love Me Tender" by Elvis.
I have read, in one of the forums on AF, of someone with similar problems...they had to replace the MFS.

I just did a search... it was this forum that I saw it in, most threads point to the Multi-Function Switch.

Was there any resolution on this one? My 98 Blazer just developed the same issue this weekend.

not sure about earlier models, but 2000 blazers have been recalled for problems like this. You can do your own searches here

Just had my MFS replaced today. Lived with the clicking for about two weeks and that was all I could handle. Driving anywhere was like a trip to hell!

I had the same problem with the addition of intermittant wipers. I couldn't beat the dash hard enough to fix it. The problem cleared up when I replaced the wiper control board. Located next to the wiper motor under the hood.
