Hi,
I'm having problems with the central locking on my 1996 Maxima (uk).
The keypad/fob failed to work..changed the battery..nothing. I tried the spare keyfob still nothing. The locks work fine with the key. My dad has the same car and he has the same problem as me! Is this a simple fix??
Any ideas...driving me crazy! :screwy:

the same thing happened to me in my 95 maxima. i had just figured that i broke my remote and just dealt with it, but a few months later my car battery died. i changed the car battery and the keyless entry remote started working again. i can't say for sure that the 2 problems are related, but that's what happened to me.
if i were you i'd try to reprogram my remote first. to do so you have to get in your car and lock the doors behind you. you then insert the key and remove it from the ignition 7 times. leave the key in the ignition the last time, the hazard lights should flash. then turn the key to accessory position so your radio works but the car's not started. then push the "door lock" button on the remote you're trying to program. the lights should flash again, and that should do it. if that doesn't work, i'd look into the possibility that your car battery is on its way out. Is it realy cold where you are? that'll kill a car battery pretty easily.

Hi..Thanks for the quick reply.
I will try the car battery as soon as possible.
I think this might just solve the problem. I have had the car for over 4 years and its never had a new battery...possible its still the original! It has been pretty cold over here lately (was scraping ice off the windscreen most mornings a couple of weeks ago).
I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks again!!

Hi,
Bought a new battery today...found out the one on the car had been on it for at least 5 years...so thought it was time for a new one.
Keyless entry still not working though :disappoin !
I tried the procedure you mentioned..but with no luck.
Nothing flashes or happens when the key is inserted 7 times....Does anyone know if this procedure should be different for a UK spec car??It uses the keyless entry system made by alpine, located in the boot (trunk)..Any more uinfo would be very welcome!!

I was just messing with mine yesterday... The lock button barley ever worked, unless I pressed the unlock button like 10 times, and then quickly pressed the lock button a couple of times... My spare one worked fine, so I just firgured it was battery, but when I swapped batteries, the spare one STILL worked fine and my other one still wouldnt lock it up... Needless to say, I have retired my old one, which doesnt even have the icons on the buttons any more... My guess with mine was that it was just bad circuit board or contact or something, but they're not that expensive on eBay... PLUS, you already know how to program a new one... BUT, my concern is if BOTH of your current ones REALLY are bad, or if it's something else... Come over to my house sometime and we'll program my remote to lock your car and see if it work.. that is if you want to drive all the way to VA.. ;-)
