After reading some of this forum, Does anyone have anything good to say about the Durango.........How is the 4.7 magnum v-8? The dealer told me that they replaced another motor that they were having problems with. I love mine so far but only have had it for a week, It's got 34,000 miles on it.....

I also have a 4.7 in my 2000 durango. I also love it. I have about 68000 on mine and it runs great. Mileage isn't the greatest which I'm sure you've noticed but oh well. At least the mileage is better that the 318 it replaced and it makes more power. There is an aftermarket developing for them too. If you have any more questions let me know I'll try to help you out.

I have a 2002 4.7 V8 SLT with 40K miles. I have loved it so far, but it has recently begun to give me problems. Reading this forum is making me sick to my stomach as several of the issues people have talked about are beginning to appear in my durango. the worst is that i had the dealer perform the ball joint recall in February, and now i am beginning to hear that "clunking" noise coming from the front end anyway. I'm beginning to wonder if they actually performed the recall service... Anyway hoping for the best and next time I purchase I car I will cruise these forums first!

I don't know what all these problems are about. I pull a trailer with mine and work it and have had no problems. I'm now at 75000 and still good. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I have a 2003 Durango 4.7 with no problems either. Keep up with the maintenance and you will be ok. The balljoints should be covered under recall. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. Mine just turned 30,000 miles and I just did the transmission service yesterday. The tranny (5 speed auto) takes 8 qts. of ATF+4 to fill it up after a pan drop. You can get the filters at NAPA and their filter comes with a rubber gasket (the factory uses RTV sealant). There are 2 filters to change on the tranny. One is a spin-on and the other is the main sump filter. They are located next to each other and are easy to get at once you drop the pan. Don't use anything but the ATF+4 fluid from the draler in that transmission and you will be ok. Change every 30,000 miles.
