Nope. I've had the AEM CAI on my GS-R for about a year, and live in a very wet climate (tampa bay, FL)... Even when we had a straight week of flooding last year, I had no trouble driving the 40 miles to work without sucking up water.

The concept of sucking enough water to cause hydro-lock is about as close to impossible in winning the lottery. :) If it's a serious concern, you can buy the AEM bypass valve and install it. It's less than $50, I believe.

i have the by-pass valve, and i drove through many rain and snow storms - no problems. even without the valve i doubt i would have sucked in water.

about the bypast valve, my friend had one on his GSR and he felt that somthing was wrong, so we dynoed his GSR and as it turns out the valve was sucking in hot air from the engine area, and gave him about 5 wheel hp less than the normal CAI. Normally his GSR ran 185hp at the wheels but with the bypass we got readings from 177-179hp as the peek.

Wow...and I thought AEM claimed that installing a by-pass valve will not affect performace at all!

really!!!! CRAP
yeah they do claim "minimal horsepower losses"
and its suppose to stay closed all the time.
Anyone else have any other bypass valve trouble/losses?

so basically you pay 40$ and, you lose hp and its function is useless?

no it doesn't, but i've never actually heard it open. (when the main filter is submerged.

yea so, my friend got a strechable silicone tubing and some bushings to cover and conntect area where the cai was cut to install the bypass filter during the summer and put the bypass back on to it during heavy rain season.
