Does it make me a bad person if I find this commercial funny? I don't mean to sound callous, I understand how horrible landmines really are and completely agree that they should be taken care of, but I find something about this commercial amusing.

I get the feeling I'm going to be strung up for this one.

Damn, I was expecting to laugh, maybe see at the point of the explosion some make believe crash dummies flying through the air like in those cheap special effects movies but nope, it actually shocked me a bit. They sure are getting the message across. Damn.

I found it stupid, and because it was stupid, I found it humorous. The thought of landmines being in the center of a soccer field, thats traversed over and over again, in central suburbia..... I understand the msg they are trying to get across, but still, they could do a way better job. how about a soccer game in croatia, and watch a player chase the ball off the field or something way more believeable than that.

^^^I agree. Not hilarious but funny because that scenario (undiscovered landmine in a public park) is a little unbelievable. I don't know anything about where all the real landmines are buried, but it seems to me whoever was responsible for maintaining that soccer field would have discovered or detonated that landmine when he cut the grass with a lawnmower.

Yeah that's pretty good special effects and stunt work for a non-profit PSA.

the only reason land mines are still around is because of the 38th parallell. That's the only thing theoretically seperating another invasion. A big reason US hasn't agreed to the boycott.
Dood the irony of the video was a little humoresque. Until the screaming mother. Whares mah rope... lol

I agree completely, when I first saw the explosion I couldn't help but laugh, but when the mother started screaming it quickly got unfunny.

Would've been heaps funnier if you got Skippy the Kangaroo to jump across a mine field, get blown sky high and served freshhhh on a tasty pizza.
But what do I know.

well, they were trying it seems, to get that feeling of "what if it was your own backyard" type of thing.... but to me, it was just poorly done, because there is no way in hell, a land mine would make it that long, in the center of a soccer field, and with none others around it..... no signs of battle scaring, or a war zone around it, all green and lush, nice little yuppie upscale surburbia.....
it was just completely un-realistic in my eyes.

I've done better in my backyard with gasoline and a lighter, on several occasions. And that's not counting the homemade pyrotechnics that simulated land mines, and we didn't have someone stand in front of the camera, you got to watch the flames fly up my legs.
Taking into account what others have already said (location/likelyhood), very poorly done commercial, imho.
