K.C. Converters

K.C. Converters-anybody know this company? They sell remanufactured catalytic converters. Anyone have an opinion on the company or on the remanufactured cats in general? I think the company that made the high flow one was BOSH or something like it.

My sister's got a 98 VR6 Jetta, and a 8 week old baby. It'll cost $1300 for a new catalytic converter. This company has a remanufactured high flow cat for under $200. Then there's the remanufactured OEM part for $300. Anybody know if the high flow one connects up easy? I'm planning on taking the part to Midas or someplace, and getting them to install for the cost of labor. Also, should I buy the oxygen sensor he's suggesting for $120?

Any advise would be GEATLY appreciated.

If it were me, i would go for the refurbished OEM. More reliable.

The chances of an aftermarket cat setting codes in ecm for (catalyst efficiency below threshold) is high. Unfortunately the best way to go would be buying a new oem one. Thats problably the reason the previous owner sold the car. Also you dont need to replace the o2 sensors unless the shop cant get the old ones out.

Thanks a lot veedubmechanic; the guy has 2 year guarantee on the cats (oem or other), and he says he'll put in writing a guarantee that it'll pass emissions.

Guess that could be hot air if he's banking on me having to pull the thing if it fails and then send it back to him. He might require me to pay for deinstallation/reinstallation etc...I'll have to read the fine print carefully. I think the car comes up for emissions inspection this year.
