1998 Exploere 4wd problems

I have recently bought a rwcked 98 exploere. nothing was working on it power windows, dash lights, but i found a box behind the radio which seems to work most all of these. my problem is now that my 4wd just blinks and goes out. i have tried 2 or 3 diffrent boxes so i am guessing that that is not the problem. so what is causing the blinking, it will not go into 4 high or low just blinks and goes out

make sure the gem module you replaced behind the radio is correct. it controls 4x4 functions
