i have a 1991 mustang GT and i wanna get 2 weld racing rims and slap 2 bfgoodrich g-force drag radials on them, and just keep these at my house and when i race ill put them on, but my question is how wide of rims could i go without having to customize anything back there? i just want to be able to bolt them right on, i think the stock tires are 8" wide and i would like to have 10" but i dunno if they will fit

Depends on if you have a convertable or not.

Firstly, it is irrellevant if it is a convertible or not.

10" wide with 6.5" back spacing but the quad shock must be removed. Anything other than that backspacing will rub or stick out.

A few tips - width isn't the main concern its height. Try to fit a 28"+ tall tire in there. Another thing, definately stay away from radials for drag. You want wrinkle wall slicks. BFG, MT, Cooper, etc etc all make wrinkle wall slicks. You will probably need inner tubes for wrinkle walls, depending on the brand/style.

Ok, so you are going to go as far as to point that out about the different sizes, but you wont tell us? what is the dimensions in the rear of a 89 GT? Whats the widest tire I can put on a 17" rim, and how wide of a rim can I go?

ok so if i were to get these rims what would be a good size to get them in WITHOUT having to backspace or remove anything, i was thinking 15x9, but i dont know if that will fit, and by the way my car is a hatch, not convertable.

I have a 85GT with 15x10 Draglites, I run 275/50/15 BFG Drag radials. They fit good unless you hit a decent sized bump, then they rub. But for the track I wouldn't worry about it. I don't recall the back space, my appologies. On my car we had to "clearance" the wheel well by the spring. Quad shox were long gone, replaced with Southside lift bars. Also, there are plenty of guys running 8's on drag radials.
