clicking noise at acceleration?

The clicking noise seems to be worse from a cold start and when accelerating from a stop. The noise increases with with RPM's. At idle or while steady driving, the engine sounds fine. If i gradually (slowly) accelerate I can by pass the noise. Other than the clicking noise, the engine runs perfect.

I service the engine every 3,000 miles and use mid-grade fuel. My 2000 Mountaineer (5.0L) currently has 63,xxx miles.

is it a knocking noise or clicking noise like something banging up against cylinder wall?

Is your mountaineer an AWD? I have heard of clicking problems on awd vehicles that have to do with the front transfer case slipping. Since you say it only happens when you are accelerating then it may not be the engine.

Try revving the engine in park and see if it still makes the noise.

Thanks for all the replys. I installed new plugs, serviced the transmission and began running a higher grade fuel that seems to have corrected the problem for now.

if that solved your problem then you could need a valve adjustment.
