I've got a '97 V8 and i want to give it a deeper more aggressive sound, i was just wondering if i should get a whole new exhaust or just put a couple of flowmaster super 40's on.

And if i should go with a new exhaust does anyone know where i could order a complete 3" system (from headers to muffler, i would still put some flowmasters on)

If you or someone that you know, knows how to weld, you could just have a compleate system made. As far as getting one from a site like summit, I have no idea. I was never able to find one for mine, but yours is a lot newer, and a v8.

From summit you can get a complete 2.25" system, by Dynomax or Flowmaster. For the most agressive sound, I think American Thunder mufflers would work nicely. For a complete 3" system, go to supercoupeperformance, except its $700. I think Borla makes a 3" kit, im not sure though.

the reason i wanted to get all new from headers back, is cuz i do plan on getting a super charger in the not so near future, so i thought it would be best to just change it all now

if your going to change it from the headers back might as well get rid of those stock headers.put some good shortys or equil lenth shortys on it.
if you want to keep it cheap and simple leave the exaust alone and just change the muffler for the nice sound. beacause you never get the HP that you want from a cat back system.

BTW, if you do replace headers, dont go with the JBA's or the knock off SSAutoChrome. They are just for looks and sound. No substantial HP/TQ gain.

Kooks is the best header choice out there for Thunderbird/Cougar owners. Again, expensive, but remember, you get what you pay for.

And no, Mustang headers wont work..

why wouldnt mustang headers work? i thought that the frame and everything was the same. the motors are the same, are they not? (im not contradicting , just wanna know)

Mustang headers won't work because the steering shaft is different than a mustang and is in the way. Also, the left header ends in some strange angle, which wouldn't be a problem if you're making your own system. I have heard of a steering shaft relocation kit, i'm assuming consists of a new shaft section and a couple U-joints. i have found a wide selection of much cheaper Hedman and Flowtech headers that will fit at
(long link):
http://www.team-performance.com/partssearch2.cfm?searchquery=Thunderbird&cat=Headers&keywordtype=Vehicle

click "see more" at the bottom of that page if you can't find what you're looking for

Bad part is they don't have many pics. i did find a set of equal length shorties for my 93 5.0 bird, but i haven't bought them yet.
if anyone else knows where i can find a set of good headers for my T-Bird post a link.

SVTBIRD I have a 88' t-bird maybe im confusing the body's.is it that 83-88 t-bird's being on a fox body platform the parts are interchangable like headers. or am i wrong cause if im right maybe 89'and up were the body changed, the problems like you said are true.ill look in to it again later when i get a chance on www.foxthundercats.com wich is a web site for birds & cats 83-88.

INNES, yea, in 89 the entire platform changed, that's how they went to the IRS rear end and the whole new body style. the motors in the 89-93 5.0 tbirds are pretty much the same as the earlier style, but with the same intake as a 94-95 5.0 mustang.
