Cranking engine that hasnt been started for a few years

What kind of lub or product should I spray into the cylinders and let it sit for abit before I turn it manually and then attempt to start it via ignition and such. The guy I bought it off of thought the rod had gone but it might be just a timing chain, so when I check it out tomorrow, fi its a timing chain I wanna spray some lube in there so when I get a new timing chain and I can hopefully start it, if its a rod I will let you know and you can just forget this thread, cause I'll be getting a new engine :)

I had an old mechanic tell me once that Marvel mystery oil is a good thing. You may want to try putting approx 1 oz per cylynder and let it sit a few days with the plugs in but not torqued. Then remove the plugs, let the engine crank for about 4 seconds expelling the oil. Replace the old plugs and tighten. Purge the old gas. Put fresh gas in and one or two seconds it should fire, smokes a little bit at first due to residual oil in the cylinder. Once running awhile and no more smoke, I would remove the plugs and install new ones. A basic tune up would be good with wires distributor etc.

I failed to mention you may hand crank the engine if you wish as opposed to electriclly cranking, with the plugs removed for less compression. In smaller piston aircraft turning the prop through a few cycles is the manufacturer prefered method. :wink:

You also should be considering what to do about the fuel system. Gasloine can become a bad thing (lacquer, gelled, or crystyalized) within the various fueling components if left long enough. Lucas makes a product the should help to break down the deposits but Im not sure as to the the severity of your issue. I live in Arizona so it doesn't take long for these kinds of things to happen. Thanks, I think im just goign to get some fuel stabalizer, pour it in, top off with brand new gas, jump on the car abit and hopefully itll work all good :). If I get this engine going, tune up will be in the works. Thanks for the info guys :)
