Greg (GTA),a buddy Steve, and myself put a tranny together last weekend. It consisted of a Si case and final gear diff, ZC 1,2,3,4th gears and a HF 5th gear. Wow what a differnce this combo makes. 1st is a little shorter, but 2nd and 3rd are alot wider than the Si tranny, 4th is pretty close to 3rd but is takes you up to around 110 at red line 7,500rpm (Good for 1/4 mile runs). 5th is a big cruz gear 80 at 3,200 and 90 at 3,800 and 100 at 4,500. We kinda figured out that the tranny would top out at around 168 mph figuring around 7,500 rmps.
There was a problem when we put it all together I found out Tuesday after a 300 mile trip for work 3rd, 4th, and 5th were really noisey. I finally pulled the tranny apart today and found that both bearings on the diff were so shot that there was peices of the ball bearings missing on both sides. So luckly I had another tranny (buddy doms old tranny not yours greg) laying around and pull the diff out of that.
We also finally got around to building Gregs tranny with pretty much everything newly used best of the best stuff we had. So in my garage sits a new Si tranny for Greg for his turbo'd z6 (Again when is that going to happen?) and alot of Si, Dx, and HF gear sets. Well comment if ya want if not cool to just thought Id share.

awesome man, im getting all my parts ready to redo my zc tranny with different gears. I want to do the zc because id like to have the slight advantage of equal lenght shafts along with an lsd. get some quarter mile times and compare the difference.

manual transmissons are suprisingly easy. Its the automatics that are damn confusing.

I have rebuilt several Chevy auto trannys they are a cake walk compared to a Manual tranny. There is 10X more shit in a standard tranny than there is in a auto. Maybe just chevy auto trannys are easy. :dunno:
