Clunking noise from the rear (but has new shocks!)

Ok, changed my rear shocks to get rid of a clunking noise coming from the back...but only to have the same thing come back. No idea where its coming from, honestly. Leaf springs? Something is bottoming out back there, thats for sure. This only happens when I turn though...

One of the typical clunking sounds on the 92-97 is due the rear shackles being worn out. Check it out.

Do you have rear disc brakes or drum brakes. I would check to see if the bearings are bad in the rear wheels if you have those. Also check to see if the rear axle inner shaft that connects to the wheel is loose. Just guessing here.

what about the slip yoke, or maybe in need of limited slip diffy additive, if you have recent'y replaced fluid and didn't add it. Probably the later if it only going around turns. Just the first thing that comes to my mind.

Mine does this too, when turning into a driveway and the like.

Agreeing with Ryan (as usual), check out the rear leafs for movement due to loose shackles. That's what my problem is, however, I'm doing a lift very soon, so I'm living with the issue for now.

Check your muffler and tailpipe for loose/broken hangers. Or your pipe might be bent somehow. I'm currently living with some clunking cause my wife backed into something and bent the tailpipe.

They are all viable explanations so I'm going to try each one...I know for sure its not the tailpipe because I just changed it and the sound is not a hallow, high pitched clanging, but a real "CLUNK", kinda like two thick pieces of metal hitting when I make a turn. If it is the diff, shouldnt it make the sound all the time?

It may not make the noise all the time because when you are in a turn it puts uneven rotation on the left and right wheel. It also tends to put side pressure on the wheel that is on the inside of the turn. If something is loose on the inside of your axle or wheel drum this could cause the noise. I have seen this before, and not trying to alarm you but I have seen the rear wheel come completely off with the inner axle shaft still attached. This is extremely rare.

have you checked out the back window latch?
I had the same intermittent clunking noise. There is a
plastic protective wrap on the latch arm, and this was
worn thru. Did a temporary fix with electrical tape and
it worked.
