Well the willys is stored away and the next one is underway.
Already the parts have been removed from the trees and started to be sanded and primmed.
Here's a pic of the body kit.....awesome is all i can say
The fitment of the skirts and quarters are not the best but will look OK after a bit of trimming etc.
The wheels are great too.
Usual pics and updates will follow as kit gets built.

hey its a little bit offtopic but you said you prime parts after you remove them from trees. and in Dan's pictures(subaru in the "painting car bodies etc.") i see that he is not removing parts from trees before priming.

in psychology:
you like A
you like B
A acts opposite of B
you are confused, you kick your dog

inner-concious:(what a stupid question)

UPDATE.
Things have been slow on the kit due to work around the house that needs doing first :(

Anyway,......the body has been sanded down and the skirts/quarters and bumper glued to the shell so it can be painted as one.
Thes skirts are not a good fit and needed to be filled in places to take up gaps. The rear quarters are even worse for fitment  . But once they were filled and 3 coats of primmer added they look great.
Have no idea as to a colour yet again

Other parts are now painted and when dry will be glued together and the ride height etc checked to see if it needs lowering.
Hopefully get some pics up in the weekend

What did you use to fill the gaps? Epoxy Putty or Putty?
I don't understand it, but my Tamiya Skyline's rear bumper wasn't a very good fit. There is a gap big enough to slide paper through. I don't believe it.

The putty i used is called "Squadron Fast Drying Putty".
30 Minutes and its ready to sand

Why don't you try some wild metallic blue (more to the light blue side...)

Have a good look at your raod cars Warren and see if any colours are missing!
You could go for Red (Fast & Furious) or, like Alex says, a good deep blue. They look great in Gran Turismo in blue.

NOT yellow or Silver!

I was thinkin of making a replica of the Fast and the Furious RX-7 also,
using the Combat II version of the kit and make the lights from the Aoshima C-West RX-7 and rims seperate (Fujimi Veilside Andrew Racing F's). Although i can't get the decals.

Tell me what u guyz think...

This is where i can get the lights...

Hey Primera!

I was wondering if you modded the rx-7 before priming it to look like that? Where did you add putty to get that nice realistic look? Or is it just box stock like that? Modded stuff like using putty or filling gaps or anything. It looks a lot better than the example model.

I have a Veilside Silvia S15 ECI in my closet somewhere I think I want to start soon! The skirt on it looks a bit dull and crummy, i need to find out how to liven it up and make it look nice!

Looks like the rear under spoiler / spat thing sticks out of the body from the side shot, is it supposed to be like that?

primera man
03-24-2002, 11:39 PM
XenoKryst.......the kit comes with the side skirts etc already molded. The fit wasn't the best. had to add putty to fill the gaps between the skirt and body.

Hiro....yeah i wondered the same...kinda looked weird, but after doing a search on google and seeing other pics it was correct. Maybe not quite as much as the kitset though

man....that looks nice......the pieces look like they were made very well....probably due to the fact that you had to trim them.......i think the color will look pretty nice too...but i like the dark blue color for the fd3s.....like the ones in gran turismo like , i think, guiddy said......

Today was spray day !!
Car has turned out really well. Has a real nice deep gloss to it which im very pleased with.
Only problem is the paint was so god darn thick   I have never known a Tamiya paint to be so heavy and thick to apply.
It's almost like the spray putty.
The first coat was meant to be a mist coat, which almost drowned the poor body :(

The second coat was looking like orange peel
Luckly by the third and final coat i had the nack of what it was like to appy and managed to end up with a good finish.
The one think i must say about the paint is that even though it was so thick to get on it never run.

The other problem now is that with the paint being so thick its filled up all the window and door seems :( :(
Thats why it only got the 3 coats.
Hopefully over the next few days as it dries it will shrink into the gaps.

Thick coats probably protect the RC cars from scratching and chipping and stuff, I guess it might even be an enamel or modified enamel instead of a lacquer

How'd you reduce the orange peel on the 3rd coat? Im interested :)

I noticed after the second coat that the paint wasn't running in one place that was quite heavy with paint. So i sprayed the rear spoiler with a big heavy coat to see if it would run which it didnt.
So i thought if i give it a nice heavy coat of paint on the body it wont run and will get rid of the orange peel....which it did.
There is still a little bit of orange peel on one of the doors but it will be covered by decal

The bodies of RC'z r sprayed from the inside b-cuz the body comes clear so the coats aren't thick cuz it is supposed to protect from scratches and chippin. Although u mite b rite about the enamel thing

LOL....The body still has to be detailed yet !!!

The intercooler is molded into the bumper which will make the painting hard to do.

Warren, is that a fat aftermarket exhaust tip or the one that came with the kit?

It come's with the kit Dan.
Spent today with the compound and the polish giving it a real good polish.
Have done the door/bonnet lines etc to. Dan, that pen makes life so much easier !!!
Just the window/door frames to do.
If you notice how the tyres have a nice deep black to them ??......i use the Tamiya wax on them as it gives them a great look.
As you can see from the pic i have test fitted the rear spoiler which took awhile to get just right as it would not sit correctly.
What a difference a spoiler makes !!
Daggerlee.....no more blue intercooler :finger: ..lol
