My friend has a 1997 Gran Prix that when the battery was recharged the audio system, no speaker sound, yet cassette player runs the tape forward and reverse, He disabled the security and he gets a red line saying disabled. Anyone have any suggestions how to "reset" the system. He has the premium sound system...
Thanks

Grand Prix's have the junkest radios out. Tell your friend to tape a dime to it, and throw it in the lake. He will be out a dime, but it will be a good start.

you really didn't phrase the question good so i dont know what your asking?? Are you trying to say that his factory gm tape deck has theftlock on it?? If thats the case than his tape deck is doing what its suppose to do!!! It thinks it was stolen and its locked up!!! He can go to a gm dealership and have them unlock it. He could also stop being cheap and get an aftermarket cd player. He will need to use an aftermarket adapter to interface with the Bose speakers not hard!
WHAT THE HELL IS A TAPE DECK!!!!!!

Well seeing where you work, can't figure out if your kidding or what. I know you know what a tape deck is. And seeing that you live in Michigan, I know your kidding. I'm from Michigan and I would say half the "rust buckets up there still have tape decks in them.
All three of my GP's have CD players, all stock. All junk. But I'm doing my best to keep them looking like stock. Now under the hoods, that's not stock. If you want good sound, buy something else. If you want to listen to the news, or just have something that makes noise, keep what you have.

Thank you for the theftlock info.I spoke to my friend, he also had a CD player. I am an audiophile and know what all you folks are talking about. After the battery died, he recharged and the radio didn't work, so he disable the antitheft lock on the radio. Now I agree with you that he needs to reset and hopefully he has not tried too many times.By the way I am impressed with your fast response and experience.

If he has tried too many times, The radio will show "INOP" on it. The only way to get rid of that is, put the key in, turn to "on". And let it set with key on for an hour.
If daytime running lights come on, set the "E" brake. Lights will go out.
