i heard that if you take off the intake silencer on a stock WRX the turbo spools up faster and is more efficient, anyone had any experience/advice on this?

Okay, the intake silencer has nothing to do with the turbo spooling, the exhaust gases are what cause the turbo spool so the higher your revs the faster it spools.
If you increase your revs faster the turbo spools faster, all removing the intake silencer does is reduce one obstacle in the path of the incoming air, reducing the pressure acting against the turbo.

Are you sure you're not just experiencing the turbo lag?

it may be turbo lag but its lagging until 5000 RPMs it didnt do that when i first got the car, i was also thinking the ECU may be restricting the car until that 5000 RPM point, and this happens in any gear
for all i know, it could all be in my head, haha

well to prove to yourself thats its not the silencer removal, put it back on real quick and see, but like ray said its not gonna be from the silencer removal...if anything it will help the car

A stock WRX shouldn't lag until 5,000 RPM it should be up and going right around 3,000 and start tailing off around 6,000. The stock turbo, TD04, is a smaller turbo and spools quick. If you really think that it isn't spooling till 5k you need to take her to the dealer and get it checked out......
