Broken pinion shaft lock bolt

Thought I should do an easy job the other day when I was trying to replace driveshaft seals on my 1987 Astro. When I removed the pinion shaft lock bolt in the rear end it was broken so I couldn’t get the C-clamps out and the driveshaft… I suppose I have to drill out the rest of the lockpin to be able to remove the driveshaft. Has anyone done that? Is it doable or do I have to change the whole rear axle…. ?
Any suggestions?
(Sorry for my bad english)
Regards,
Tony

Tony,
Sounds like you have a good grip on the situation. You should be able to drill it out. It might take a while. Be patient and you'll get it done.

I'd try some penetrating oil and a screw extractor first. You can probably get them at your local hardware store - 10 bucks for a set.
A lot less drilling.
A lot less drilling.
