odd Compression question

I have a 94 305 with 90,000 miles. In the #3 & #5 cylinders(right next to each other) I have no compression but the other 2 cylinders on that side have 150+. I am thinking the head gasket between the two cylinders is gone(but no coolant loss). It seems to me that if it was a valve problem or ring problem that the cylinders would be different but not both read nothing. Plus it didn't use oil at all .Any ball park figures on price $$ of getting the head gasket replaced? I am thinking of getting it repaired by a mechanic is the price isn't outrageous.The compression is excellent on the other bank of cylinders so I think I am only going to do the one side. Thanks

if you are going to do one side on the engine might as well do the other. already have it tore down that far no reason not to do the other preventive maintenance.

I was thinking of doing the other side as well but I have 170 pounds of compression on all cylinders on that side but we'll see how it goes.

either u have bad valves take if ur doing a compression test make sure ur valves are closed and shoot some shop air into the cylinder and check at the end of ur exhaust and see if any air is coming out make sure u dont have an exhause leak and check ur oil cap or dipstick if its ur head gasket coolant will be into ur oil and it be a mess and u prob wouldnt have compression in any of the cylinders

I would bet on your diagnosis of the gasket between the cylinders. You would save a ton of money doing it yourself. I would get the head checked for flatness. Be sure to use a torque wrench on the head.
