Alternator help needed

I got the new one since the old one bit the dust and i have all the bolts(3) removed and all the battery cables and stuff like that off. In my Haynes manual it does not say anything about taking off the belt but says i should push towards the engine. I am pushing and pushing and i can not get it to come off. Any help or ideas on how to get it off would be a big help. The guy at autozone said i should not have to take belt off to do it should slip off slip on but i doubt that. 91 4.3

As noted in yesterdays' threads, get a 1/2" square drive breaker bar and insert it into the tensioner pulley. Crank on the bar to loosen the belt so that you can remove the alternator pulley from the belt loop.
The tensioner pulley/wheel assembly is directly under the alternator. It only requires a 1/4 turn or less counter-clockwise to release tension on the belt.

ok question2 right now there is no power once so ever i bolted everything back up hooked everything up and it wont kick over a burning smell somewhat

I'm not following what you're trying to say, but once the new unit is working, it's typical to have some wierd smells from grease or oil used in manufacturing the new parts. Unless you see clouds of smoke,i wouldn't worry. A short break-in period will produce electrical related vapor/smells.

No i did not get the new one because i could not get the old one out from the belt so i decided that i should put everything back together so i followed reverse directions becausei could not get it free. So now i have nothing it wont kick over at all this is the old one.

should i head to autozone and loan this

Time to start over then. Sounds like your battery is dead. After installing the new unit, a jump should get you going again. Also make sure all your connections are correct. If you see smoke at your old alternator, you may have something connected wrong at the alternator.

First thing to do is remove the belt from the alternator pulley. Create slack in the belt by releasing pressure on the tensioner pully as mentioned in above post. Pull the belt over the alternator pulley and tuck the belt under the alternator.

Disconnect battery cables from battery, remove connector at top of alternator,remove the alternator bolts, and pull the alternator out (pry on it if its stuck to the brackets- some corrosion may be holding it in.

re-install in reverse order.

Sure. This is similar to a breaker bar I mentioned above. But the tension on these thinks aren't that great, you could even use a 1/2" ratchet wrench to do the job. (In my earlier days, I used a tire iron to wedge the unit- NOT RECOMMENDED)

would that tool in the link be the one i need to loan from autozone

i got worried i fried the system there for a second but i dont think i did

but that will work i dont have no ratchet wrench and i know a socket wrench doesnot work so that will do the job

Are there any special tricks with using this or just put it on turn it to the left and then follow the other steps in the manual?
