Progress: Bimota Tesi “Custom”

Hi,
I just started a new project: a Bimota Tesi with Ducati-V2 from Tamiya in 1:12, but „open“ that you can see the technics.
I won´t use the side parts, put the Exhaust under the seat, build a higher steering bar and modify the windshield.
Here are the first steps:
Cutting of the rear fender
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/28/1077928/3461346465326265.jpg
Empty parts were filled and puttied, the yellow tube will form the exhaust.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/28/1077928/3933323061623638.jpg
Nearly finished rear end and progress on the exhaust
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/28/1077928/1665303965653838.jpg
This is the seat/fuel-cell out of the box.
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/28/1077928/6338623036333231.jpg
Here I cut away „unnecessary“ material and you can see the frame
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/28/1077928/6230333132343561.jpg
Now it is nearly smooth

Hi Jurva,
to be honest: Modifications on the Body are enough for this project :-))). Futher I haven´t seen a Turbo or Compressor on a street Ducati

Interesting to see a modified bike. I'll follow this thread carefully.
I did this kit when I was 14-16 y/o, so I'd like to see what it will look like with your modifications. I'm sure it will be very nice :)

My bad. V2 is hard to turbocharge. I forgot that this has V2. My friend put turbo in suzuki, but it got 1100 inline 4. And it wasn't oilcooled, so he had no room for intercooler.
But go for bright and flashy colors. No black and blue.

Hi Jurva,
no, I intend to make it green metallic, nearly the colour of the Jaguar Formula 1 team of last year.
The technic I want to leave like on the kit box: Engine is meanwhile nearly black, front and rear suspension silver, steering rods and frame unter the seat in red.
I´m not sure about the wheels: white or silver with green spokes???

Hi,
little update about the steering bar:
The grey part is out of the kit, 2 little tubes (white) will later hold the higher steering bar, at the moment just a brass tube, that must be cut and bent.
The black box is the battery, from which I cut away the horn and electrical stuff. Further I cut it in pieces and glued it together again by taking away some plastic. It is now smaller. Later it will be hold in its place by a belt.

Slowly but surely:
The rear mudflap was constructed as a reinforcement of the rear wheel wing/axle (compare to the first pic). The flap itself will get the colour of the bike or a CF-decal

Hi willmo,
up to now I didn´t scratchbuild much. Just a little bit of detailling. I must fix the engine in the frame now, maybe add the rear wheel and then real scratchbuilding starts by making new pipes for the exhaust system, as there will be only one muffler under the seat.
Parallel I then can work at fuelcell / seat / front cowling to bring it in a line.
I keep you informed !!!!!!!!

so it only has one engine?
and i don't know much (anything) about bikes, so if i'm wrong correct me, but why is the front wheel connected with a trailing arm type suspension (or because it's on the front, leading arm)?
it all looks very detailed, better than i could do, it looks really really good.

I like this kind of questions because it shows that the poeple are looking, so Bimota was always known as "special" in term of some solutions on their bikes so the Tesi is no exeption, this kind of suspension was used later on (not same but something similar) on Yamaha but it proved more negative sides (read money) then classic two shock absorbers in traditional fork.
Bimota used something similar to rear fork with one schock mounted on very strange place and those stabilisator rods on the sides to try to improve the bike handeling, but sadly it was never used again.
BMW is the only manufacturer (mass production) that try to improve this front fork problem even today because it is not good that dampers and steering is connected in same thing because the ideal solution would be to try to separate them.
Sorry Micha for this explenation but I felt like giveing it :), I hope you don't mind.
And this Tesi of yours is beautifull. I know you worked very hard on body parts but I would never cover this beauty with anything. By the way, are those Modeler's wires you are using?

Yes you are right Bimota is manufacturer and Tesi is model, they have codes for each bike like "SB-..." or "DB-..." where first letter represent the engine manufacturer (S-for Suzuki, D-for Ducati) and the B is for Bimota. Here is their site, they make realy unique bikes just like Micha make unique model of their bike ;)

Hi Sasa,
I must thank you for your explanation and I must admit, you know more about this bike than me. I did know, that Bimotas are expensive and that the way they attached the front wheel has more disadvantages, especially when riding on the race-track. So this time I learned from you about my model :-)))
Once again, thankx Sasa.
The wire-lines I used are not from Modelers. These are not bad, but expensive and stiff. I use a synthetic material, which is available for me 1 mm (here the brake lines) and 1,5 mm thick and white. You can make very narrow curves and after you fixed in at the model, just put your brush with thinned silver colour to it and the white material sucks the colour from the brush. While drying the material gets a little more stiff and stays in its position.
The material is hard to find, if you have some interest in it, send me a mail.

Hi. Following your thread and like what I see! Don't know if you with "available for me" mean that you have easy access to the material or that you only can get these widths. Anyhow, 1 and 1,5 mm is too thick for the wire work if you want it in scale. For 1/12 bikes 0.4 mm for throttle and 0.6 mm for brake lines would be more apropriate.
Best regards
Joel

Hi joel
As I know only the 2 width are available and -of course- the smaller one is out of scale. However I think the impression should be adequate.
F.e. if you try to wire an engine with every wire existing at the 1:1 car you probably won´t see the engine anymore.
