Hi..
I have a del sol 1.6 vti `93.
I`m having problems with the vti.
When the engines rpm go over 5.500 it starts to choak and doesn`t run smooth at all. I already head the car checked by local honda garage, but all they did was driving arround and wondering wath it was.
If the engine is pushed for a while it starts to run smoother, almost normal, but still the rpm needel tweches and turns off the scale...
Had anyone had that problem and what could be wrong...
thanx

5,500 rpm's is where your VTEC engages. If it's choking at the activation point, you may have issues with your VTEC solenoid or something else related. Have you gone to the Honda dealership or just a local shop?

i`ve been to the local honda dealer, and they checked it out. They didn`t find anything wrong, not even the computer check showed results... all they did was driving(racing) arround and it was ok for a month or so. Then it slowly starts again...

P.S.: excuse my english :banghead:

I'd say it's probably a sensor somewhere. Might want to try resetting your ECU and do the basics to make sure - spark plugs, wires, fuel and air filters, oil, fuel injector cleaner, valve adjustment, and fuel injector cleaner.

If none of the above solves it, probably going to be a sensor somewhere that's giving you problems. Might be the VTEC solenoid - that's my first guess. I'm no expert though, so perhaps someone else has an opinion?

sounds like something electrical with the VTEC solenoid... like Jon said.... Just as a piece of advice, you said after it's driven around for a while it smoothes out.... you shouldn't be pushing it over like 4500 until the engine is warmed up. You can do damage... that may even be what your problem is now. Do you know how much a new b16 block from the honda dealer is? I do!

What kind of oil are you running. If it is really cold, your oil my be to thick to engage VTEC. Remember VTEC uses oil pressure to engage the third rocker arms. After it warms up, the oil becomes thinner. Just a thought.

I would use mobil one in evrything, since it is so easy obtainable, but if i had the patience, i would run leading edge or amsoil. They are two of the best. Honda's tend to burn oil at high RPM's to protect the rings, so swithching to synthetic may cause excessive oil burn off. I switched in my sol at about 125,000 miles and it burnt mobil one like no tomorrow. If you run into this also, run castrol GTX high milage. Hands down the best organic oil on the market in my opinion.
