I have an 02 tacoma extended cab. I have Boston pro 6.5 componants and Boston coaxials in the back. I also have an alpine receiver. I'm pushing everything with a 4x75 alpine amp. I'm using a single kicker 10'' comp in a sealed box. I'm not very pleased with the over all sound. I want more uumph out of the sub, and I'm not getting the mid bass out of the componants the I desire. I need suggestions on what I either need to switch out or upgrade. I don't want to spend a whole lot, or take up much more space if possible. Is the the amp or sub or what?

I would also like to know if I should ditch the kicker for a different brand or go to a 12'' . And what brand would you recommend. Is the amp the weak link or what do you think it is.

midbass is not the amp .... your problem is tuning

I'm running a alpine cda-9815 hu. It seems to have a lot of versitility, and a lot of stuff that I don't even know what it does. What do you recommend for tunning it.

ehhh it might be that the 6.5's just don't have great midbass...... and it sounds like your going for sound quality....i'd get an xbl^2 enabled driver like adire's brahma ($400) or Ascendant's atlas ($145)..... as far as midbass goes I would reccomend first trying your driver sealed off and DEADEN everything. If that doesn't work upgrade your set and upgrade to a bigger amp.

I'm definately going for sound quality, but I'd like a little more punch and volume. I thought the boston pro's were supposed to be excellent components, but I've heard better mid bass out of stock speakers. Would you recommend using a baffle for the drivers? I used dynomat in my previous truck, but couldn't tell much difference other than in the roadnoise. Your recommendations are greatly appreciated if you have any more to help.
Thanks

Yea definately use a baffle if your not that and damping will help.

Do you think that the boston's are better than the cdt compontents. I've been talking to you about my wife's 4-runner setup that I'm going to buy. I want to get my system dialed in, and get her a really good system for the best price possible.

I'm triing to figure out the best for the money. Would you choose either a new atlas 12, or a used jl 12w6 for about the same price.

the 3 component systems I like the best are Bostons, CDT's, and Focals. The biggest thing that "dials in" a system is where and how you mount the mids and tweets

i have 2 kicker cvr10's and you just need to tune it right for the sound you want. it took me a while to get it right but it might also be different because you have a truck and there is less space. change the settings on your amplifier and see what is best.. but stick with the kicker.. ive been very satisfied with mine

I'm considering getting the atlas 12, and either using the alpine for my highs and buying a sub amp, or replacing the alpine and buying a sub amp. I'm considering going with zapco or arc off of ebay. Or maybe just a little less quality amp for cheaper. What do you think?

Well, I do not like much from Alpine anymore. On amps, you always get what you pay for. Personally, I like to put more $$ in the amp and less in the subs but that's just me.

CDT>Boston for shore. A nice amp I use a lot for components is JL's 300/2 so you might wanna check that out. Arc and Zapco (along with brax tru tech helix ect......) are all VERY top notch and if you adn get one for a good price then do it. I don't have any personal experience yet with the atlas but it should do a little better then JL's w6

Do you know much about the clarion apx. Someone was saying the internals are very similar to the arc xxk's, and the specs I read are very similar.

Just because the internals are similiar doesn't mean the amps are similiar. weaking just a few parts can TOTALLY change an amp...... with that said I do not have experience with either amp but talk to Gsteg and Sr20 they might have.

The clarion apx series is no joke, if you get them for a good price...go for it! But there are also MANY other choices if need be!

I'm almost sure I'll go for the cdt's 61, cadence amps, and atlas 12 sub for my wife's truck. What do you think.

Sounds like a bangin system. The sq will be absolutely amazing, and you'll get plenty of bump to satisfy you or her.

Well, the RE components will be a little better than the CL-61's. I used to own the cl-61's...and the RE's are slightly better. If you went with the EF61's and the 1" tweets, then those I'd take over the RE's. peace

kdrm, hey, what head unit are you running? Also, what Kicker sub do you have, what style/size box is it in, and also how is the sub positioned in the truck?

I'm running an alpine 9815. The sub is a kicker cvs 10 that's in a sealed prefab slant box. I don't know the volume. I have the sub facing toward the drivers seat. It sits in the back of the extended cab. I'm running it bridged off of the alpine v12 4x75 amp. I'm considering getting a 350-500W class D amp and getting an atlas twelve, and then running my comps on the alpine. I have 2 8" free air kickers that I could put in the rear panels for midbass. It would take some fabrication though and these would also have to be powered of the alpine. Do you think it would be worth the endever. I want it to sound super accurate. Right now I'm running my sub, comps and rear speakers off this amp.

I ordered all the stuff for my wife's 4-runner. Thanks to all of you and your recommendations, she will officially have cdt cl61 comps powered by a cadence amp 120 RMS per channel. Atlas 12" sub powered by a separate cadence amp 350 rms. For my tacoma I went ahead and order the atlas 12 for that, and I'm going to brigde the 4 channels of the alpine to 2 channels to run the boston comps, and I'm cosidering getting rid of my rear speakers to get better staging and clarity. Also I'm going to purchase a separate amp for the sub. What do you think about the idea on the 8" free airs in the rear panels for midbass?

Sounds great man! You'll love the sound!
As far as the midbass, as long as they a crossed over correctly...you should be fine! peace
