1988 accord check engine light

The light only comes on after hard acceleration at high RPMs. The car seems to run great, but this check engine light is bugging me. After I turn the ignition off, then on again, the light stays off until i accelerate hard again. I heard that you cannot pull codes on this year and model (1988 accord lx-i). Any guesses as to what this may be from? Or do I just need to test the ranges on all the sensors until I find a bad one? Thanks in advance.

try cleaning off ur mass air flow sensor... I've heard it can get pretty dirty and it could be giving u some false #'s. Make sure to use electronics cleaner if u do...

Found the problem! Somewhere hidden deep in my repair manual I found that in order to pull codes on the '88 accord, you just need to find the led located on the ecu. The ecu on this model is under the drivers seat, and has a plastic cover on it. Mine flashed 7 times - throttle position sensor. After inspecting the throttle position sensor, i noticed that the cable that went from the throttle body to the auto transmission was a little loose. Now that I tightened that up, I don't have that code anymore!

I have a new code though... 17 - vehicle speed sensor. But I'm sure that is referring to my speedo cable being unplugged for the time being... those stupid clips that keep the cable on the auto tranny are hard to find! Guess i'll have to go find one at a junkyard....
