Hello me again, 95 dodge ram 4x4 1/2 ton 318 just replaced the tranny, and got it running and drove down the road about a 1/2 mile to the stop sign, came back home pulled in drive and when i stopped the check engine light came on. the next morning when i came out to start it, it cranks fine but wont start, this truck always started immediately, the only thing different from before is we took off the exhaust from the manifolds back was going to take it the next morning to get new exhaust put on, the sensor that goes in the catalatic convertor is not plugged in. would this keep it from starting ? if I took it off of the truck and plugged it in would it start ? or is it something else ?

thanks Jerry

It should start with the O2 unplugged; but I'd go ahead and plug it back in, then reset the computer by putting the two battery cables together for 30 sec., then try again.

Hello its not the oyxegen sensor, call the transmission shop today, and they said it would most likely be the crankshaft positioning sensor, since they are fragile and we had just changed the tranny. Anyone tell me the exact place one would be on a 1995 dodge ram 1500 4x4 automatic ? the book I have isnt real specific. thanks Jerry

they are at the top of the bell and passenger side of the engine (thats what the notch is for on the tranny with the black rubber piece more than likey you pinched the wires between the tranny and the engine

ok I went down to garage and the plastic piece that holds the sensor is broken in 2 pieces, when i took the 2 little allen head bolts out all i got was plastic bracket, the other piece is down inside with the 2 wires still attached, I guess I will try to fish it out tomorrow. thanks so much for your help
