ok so i have a 98 blazr and when ever i brake at a stop light, in the process of breakin, i hear a funny noise someting simillar to an airplane taking off or a grumbling stomach. Any ideas where this noise could be coming from thanks.

there could be several reasons your hearing this noise. can you feel grinding in the brake pedal when you press the brakes? if so, you need new brakes. also, go to all four wheels, behind the rim, andrun your finger along the rotor disc (do this before you drive your car for the day, or youll get really badly burnt!) if you feel deep ridges in the disc, you DEFINITLY need new brakes.

i dont feel any grinding when i push the breaks the breaks catch on pretty good. Is it possible that i may still need to change the breaks even if they feel like they work pretty good.

I would have to agree with other post...quite sure it's your brake pads, and more than likely the fronts. If they are making that kind of noise you should see scoring on the rotor. You may have just one side grinding for now with the other 3 still doing their job. The front pads do most of the stopping and wear out about 3 times faster than the rears.

Could be tire tread. My aggressive tread tires make that noise whn just about to come to a complete stop.

Also, you might want to have your transfer case and front and rear differential fluid checked and maybe replaced.

Sure its not your abs kicking in? Sounds like you are hearing the ABS sound. If not sounds like brakes are getting towards the end of their life.
Good Luck

Nah, ABS sounds nasty.

The groan is probably not the brakes, but the tire tread.

Tires might be overinflated or the differentials and transfer case might need new oil.

ok this morning i checked all four rotors and all but the rear right seemd to be pretty good, but the rear right looked pretty scraped and worn. Could one bad rotor disk be causing this problem? if so should i just replave that one or go aead and do all four? thanks

p.s.what's transfer case and differential fluid. where can i find these.

replace the brake rotor, caliper, and pads. it prbably wouldnt hurt to change the rubber line going to the caliper either.

Don't start telling him to replace stuff when you dont even know if it is worn out yet.

Brakes will not cause a groaning noise, it will cause a scaping or squeaking noise when they are worn out.

Google for the definition for transfer case ans differential separately to learn more.
