Over the past year I've had problem after problem on my '99 4WD Rodeo with 64k. I finally gave in and took it to my nearest Isuzu (85 minutes away) and had them do a lot of work. I'm providing the problems I've had and what they did to solve them since the Rodeo is now running right again. Though I did refuse some work that needed to be done.
Brakes:
I've replaced the front brake pads, rotors, bearings 1X (spring '04) and had the rotors replaced at a shop 1X (summer '04) after that but they continued to warp. Over time my back brakes warped d/t overcompensating for the front brakes.
-The rear pads/rotors were replaced and are now fine (1st time they've been done)
-Isuzu completely took apart the front brakes. The pins in the caliper had to be replaced and the thermal grease had worn down. This was causing a lot of vibration in the front wheels which could have been causing the brakes to warp. They cleaned everything out and repacked the bearings and added their thermal grease and new pins. They machined the warped rotors. The front brakes are better now than they ever have been.
$744.21
ABS:
I have had very sensitive ABS for a long time. If I were to hit a bump in the road at the same time I was applying brakes (or just driving in snow or lots of rain) would cause my ABS to kick in and leave me without brakes for about 5 seconds (and would make an awful grinding noise). This caused me to have 1 minor accident leaving my front R quarter panel dented.
-Isuzu found that the front R wheel speed sensor needed replaced and did so. I'm not sure if this has been effective yet but I'll let you know if the ABS kicks in when it should not.
$254.00
Intake Manifold Gasket:
I've had the fuel filter replaced, the spark plugs replaced, and the fuel injector cleaned d/t the engine light coming on many times. Each place I took it to never noticed that the Intake Manifold Gasket was cracked (maybe it wasn't then but Isuzu said it is now and my engine light is on). I have a used car warranty with Intercontinental Warranty Services and this will be fixed via warranty on Monday.
Fuel Sending Unit:
Erratic readouts on my fuel gauge for the past month or so. The Fuel Sending Unit has gone bad. This will also be covered under my warranty and replaced on Monday.
Turn Signals:
Any time I would turn on my turn signals both would come on like I was using the flashers. Occasionally the signals would work properly but most of the time they did not.
-Isuzu found that the Trailer Harness Box was bad and fixed it.
$41.25
Idler Tension Pulley:
I replaced this myself last February and it has gone bad again. The bearings in it are shot. The belt has also worn down d/t this. I will be replacing these myself.
Hope I could be of help to any of you who are having similar problems. Check my other posts if you want more details to some of the symptoms/problems I was having over the past year.
