94 gmc suburban button lights

i just got a 94 suburban and the last owner never fixed anything that was an accesory. my question is. on the dash the heating and cooling system control pannel are the buttons for fan speed, and defroster suposed to light up? seems like they should even the lights for electic windows have lights in them but the dash buttons dont , should they?
