1196 Thunderbird OD Off light does not come on

If the OD OFF light does not come on, but the transmission seems to be working fine, should this be of concern? The manual says to take it in for service and that it MAY cause damage. Any insights into that as a reality? I do not have the money to fix it, but I can not do without a vehicle either. Any ideas?

I would not worry to much about it. My shifter is all messed up both the buttons pop out(the shift button and the O/D button). The O/D light does come on and off if I push it though. But i mainly leave my car in O/D all the time. I dont think it would be a problem to just leave it the way it is. I read on a different post about how to take a shifter knob off. It said something like pull out the pin in the front. Maybe there is just a bad connection. Because if i pull my O/D button all the way out there is like 3 little copper connection points on it. Maybe try pushing and holding the button in(try while in park). If you are in park the light will still come on and off. Does anyone else have any advise?

While your driving can you push the button to take it out of overdrive and feel it down shift? If so the light just might be burned out.
