Alternator issue or not?

This is the deal on my 95 3.2L POS......I replaced the battery terminal clamps about a month or so ago because the factory negative clamp wasn't gripping the battert terminal. I began noticing higher-than-normal (what I had seen prior to the swap) voltage readings, but thy were only like 14 volts so I figured maybe now that it has a goo ground it will work better.
NEW ISSUE: Now, I hear a sickening whine that increases in pitch when RPM's increase. Sounds like the alternator area. In addition, at idle, voltage picks up to about 13 volts BUT when I start turning things on (turn signals, headlights, anything electric, even when I hit the brakes), the voltage drops below 12 and flirts with 10. nothing gets dim and no dummy lights come on, but there IS the noise AND this sudden loss of voltage. Any common ideas??? I don't want to drop $$$ on the alternator if there's another fix.

While running I'm pretty sure you should be at a constant 14V. Check to see if your ground wire on your alt is clean. Then I would yank the alt and have it tested.
Also please search here for info on aftermarket alts (many have NOT had good luck with them on isuzu's).

Even with the whining noise I hear?? The noise coincided with the beginning of the voltage drop. I thought it was tranny whine until i noticed it at idle in park. The noise definitely sounds like it's coming from the alternator or at least in that area.
Also AutoZone offers free testing of the alternator with it still attached to your car. Is this a good method to use or will I get false results?
