im a new member,so please bear with me my brother wants to sell me his 96 4door 2wd 4.3 vortech blazer for 2,000.00 because it keeps clogging up the egr with carbon. it has 112,000 miles and new exhaust and tires. from what i read the vortechs are bad about carbon build up is there anything good about these motors and do you feel it is worth it for that price or should i look else where for a vehicle?

No, they are not bad and all that is needed is probably for him to do a proper tuneup and install new O2 sensors.

For $2000, if it is in good shape, I would buy it. Also note, you don't have to replace the EGR valve everytime it gets carbon in it.

You can clean it and reinstall it.

Yes, they are quite powerful especially when in a 2wd S10.

TB cleaner through the intake will not clear up an EGR problem.

i pulled over on a parking lot and took out the egr valve and cleaned out the carbon. it took about an hour to let it cool and taking it out the about 30 min worth of cleaning and reinstalling it. its running fine now until it clogges up again. going to check the cpi tomorrow and clean the egr port on the intake. maybe it might help slow the clogging effect. sorry i wasnt so speccific on the last message. i have a tendency to get in a hurry.
