Throttle Body, or IAC?

I have a 95 Cavi and it won't start unless my foot's on the gas. I cleaned the IAC valve and put it back on. I noticed that it was very difficult to move the valve, even after I cleaned it. Is it supposed to move freely? I did not take the throttle body off and clean it. I figured I'd do that next. I priced an IAC valve, but I want to make sure there's nothing else I need to do before I purchase it.

Have you check all the fuel delivery components before that? i.e. your fuel filter could be clogged, a clogged injector, fuel pump... ya know what i mean?

You are not supposed to move the IAC at all. rotation is okay but the in and out movement will throw it out of adjustment. You will need to do a relearn/reset proceedure. Get a Haynes manual or do a search here for details. As for the hard starting try a good cleaning of the throttle body and test the TPS while you are in there. Good Luck.

At first, I thought it just wasn't firing. So I changed the spark plugs. I didn't check the fuel filter mainly because with my past experiences, that would be a problem if the car stalled or sputtered. So far, that hasn't been the case. In this case, the car only gives me trouble upon ignition. Once I do get the car started, she runs perfect. I have not checked the injectors or fuel pump mainly because the problem does not persist after the car has been started.

It's all IAC then. If you TB is gummed up around the IAC holes it wont work good as air cannot pass through freely!

Could be stuck open injectors. putting your foot to the floor puts the car in "clear fllod" mode killing fuel delivery.
