My new 850i

I just got this today in the mail. It's a 1990 BMW 850i by Yat Ming. It was only $20.50 from ebay including shipping :biggrin: . The detail isn't to great but i plan on modding it some to make it look better. I am thinking about a new paint job, new wheels (but not sure what ones will fit good on it- suggestions please), new interior, possibly stealing a sound system from a dubcity or import tuner model, some engine dressing up, new exhaust system, etc. Suggestions on color, accessories, etc. are welcome. I think the color is fine. Try just putting on some 18s from an import racer, lower it just a tiny bit and you'll be set. Maybe make some headlights instead of those pop-ups? Not sure you can because of the angle but that would be nice.

I want it to be somewhat stock, I'm not going to turn into some rice machine with huge wings and body-junk. I just want to add some engine stuff, and make the interior look good, as well as a sound system just for show.

Nice car. Red is really nice. But Midnight Blue could work really well also.
Maybe a painted interior. Sound system. And some nice not to flashy wheels.

Try to find soem chrome Bimmer rims, that will look sweet!

yeah, i know all about this model's fairly ugly quality. i've got one too, the worst part is the seats, i hate them, they look like they grew from the floor like a tree. try to find some nicer seats, i'm going to use a pair of porsche seats in mine. for rims i'd recommend not going too big, go for some (scale) 18" bbs wire style rims, they'd look good

I'm currently trying to find some seats that actually look right in it, the original ones are huge. All the other ones I have tried look to small, so i need some bigger ones. I am definatly changing the color, my model has a few chipped spots on it, and some inperfections in the paint. As far as wheels go, I am still trying to find ones that will look right on it. I will consider the idea to use integrated headlights instead of the stock pop-ups, but i need to think up some way to create new ones, or rip them off from another model.

Current progress: Getting ready to sand and prep the body. Working on the sound system, and interior. Engine comes last.

No, I'm not 100% sure what color yet, I am still debating what color to paint it. I want to use a color that is not seen very often on an 850, yet I want it to look stunning at the same time (suggestions?)

Actually I want the interior to be black and white, I just need to find a color that looks good with black and white. I am thinking maybe a purple of some sort with metallic. Where can I find a place that sells spray paints in the can that has a good color selection? Or would airbrushing be better?

I have run into a bit of a wall :banghead: . I still need to find some proper rims for my 850, I like the idea of the bbs style rims, but who makes a decent pair that will fit like a charm on yat mings? Also, I am currently trying to remove the sport seats from the Hotwheels 57' Chevy (purple) custom. I have literally ripped the whole frame apart just trying to get the seats out. I hope its worth it in the end...

Some updates on my 850 project: I am almost done painting the interior, I have to paint the inserts on the seats(white). The body still needs to be sanded and prepped, I still need to find wheels (preferably bbs), and from some of the photos you can see the custom sound system coming along, and the custom made sub box in the trunk(little more than a bunch of paper :p ), hopefully i can start the body sometime this week. Thats all for now.

ok, i'm a little freaked out here :screwy: . i'm using the same subs on my 850 (i'm only using one though), mine's also green, i was going to do a two tone interior as well (pale grey and black)

BTW: if you want some subs that look a little nicer, go buy some of those google eye things like on stuffed bears, cut off the white back plate, paint semi gloss silver, and print out the sub brand logo (Alpine Type R is what your using i see), cut out the logo and glue to the centre of the "sub" with one of those glue stick things (the same glue used for paper)

i think that method was posted here a fair while ago, so if anybody originally posted that, thanks for the idea, it works really good.

I have a quick question, would the wheels that come in the dubcity wheel kit fit nicely on the 850? I mean without to much modification to the rolling stock setup? Thanks.

Some updates on my 850, I've been kinda busy this past week so not a lot has changed. Although I have decided to give it wider more aggressive fenders to accomodate the wheels I will be attempting to put on (still awaiting the new wheels from ebay purchase). It will be my first time using bondo, hopefully it comes out right. I will try to update soon with some pics of progress.
