What do you think?...
p.s. Please also think about the image, looks, and the undertstatement factor, not only the specifications...

First of all, i want you to say "10 day limit on polls" a thousand times out loud. The next time i'll just lock the poll immediately. It's not like it's the first time i tell you.
As for the comparison, it's pretty easy for me. The CL may have stupid amounts of grunt, but the Vanq ain't exactly slow. And while the CL is vulgar and fairly unexciting to look at, the Vanquish is a styling masterclass. It also makes one of the best car sounds in the world. Vanquish for me.

Vanquish...the SL65 even though it's faster...the SL65 looks like all the rest of it's SL brethern and the ones b4 that...ie not much has changed and it doesnt inspire me like the Vanquish does

The Vanquish may well be the sexiest car on the planet. I love it to bits. But I keep hearing the gearbox sucks so bad that it's actually reason enough not to buy one. Anyone have first hand experience with that paddle shift?
It's a hard one. Because as stupid and pointless as the CL65 may be, what if you had to live with the Vanquish gearbox everyday?

I'm inclined to think the DB9 is actually the sexiest car on the planet.......
And I'd certainly take the Vanquish over the CL, while it is true that the gearbox is rather stupid (Just give us a god damn lever, nobody cares about your stupid buttons and paddles), the Vanquish just has a character that the CL65 could never match in a million years, I mean James Bond drove one for gods sake, there is an unshakable stigma as a result.

I tend to agree with Jim, I think I like the DB9 more then the Vanquish for looks. But between the CL65 and the Vanquish, I'd have to go with the Vanquish. The CL65 is another soulless Benz, while few cars match the "character" of an Aston Martin.
The engine in the SL/CL65 AMG is amazing, but I was talking to a guy at the Portland International Autoshow that works at a local Benz dealership, and he was saying that there is actually too much torque (712) in the SL and CL65 AMG, creating way to much wheelspin to be used in a daily driver. He actually admitted to liking the SL55 and CL55 more. IMO, the SL65 and CL65 is the perfect example of Benz taking the horsepower/torque war way too far. Not even the Enzo and McLaren F1 boast that kind of torque.

The thing that I don't like about the DB9 is its abreviated wing extensions on the front grill. It looks like a trapezoid not an inverse wing. The DB9 is more feminine in my opinion. It's more sleek, more streamlined. Whereas the Vanquish is more of a brute, muscular and of course far better shaped grill. I just like it better.
OH MY GOD, what have I said. I like a brute muscular form more than a feminine shape.
I can't go on, far too distressed, must see shrink for emergency session.

I'd go for the Vanquish too. It's definitely got more character. And if you're rich enough to get either car, it's just way too cliched to get a Merc.
Having said that, I'd take the DB9 over the Vanquish.

I'd go for the CL65 for precisely the reasons you don't. It's so very annonymous nobody would look at it twice, and thus they would't exactly be expecting it to destroy them would they? Also, it is a car you can drive everyday, unlike the Aston. You can actually go on holiday in the Merc, which you couldn't in the Aston (no luggage space).
Also, the Merc doesn't pretend to be a supercar. It's a very powerful Grand Tourer. I don't think the Aston has such a clearcut identity. Look at what it offers: an immensely powerful engine in a typical coupe body style, minimal rear seats (if any - i believe they are optional and useless if you take them) and it's marketed as a GT. The Merc offers the same, but comes closer to its intended mark because it DOES offer true GT capability. With the added advantage that you can destroy most out and out sportscars in a straight line if not on the track. Which is not what the car is about anyway.
For what it is, you can't beat the Merc!

That I agree, I think I would also take the DB9 over the Vanq; but as far as the comparo goes, I' fancy the Vanquish more than the Merc
