2.8L Dead Shall I beat on it?

Hey all, so now that the 2.8L is dead, when I bring it home, would ti be worth it to attempt to see myself what is the problem if it has or hasn't thrown a rod etc... I mean hell if the thing sort of runs why not run it for a little bit :). Is there any easy way to check if it has thrown a rod, I got a hoist so pulling it out isnt an issue, but I've never pulled a Domestic engine out so it should be interesting.

You are going to know if it threw a rod. It will be spewing oil everywhere, because there will be a hole in your block. So probably not that...

hell, if its already dead, might as well rip it apart n play with it... just dont forget to bring your AF standard issue sledgehammer..

:) I'm trying to think of somethign to make possibly, or maybe sell the parts but I remeber off one Top Gear episode, they made a bench with 2 old car seast and a table in th emiddle, I could do a v6 coffetable and when i switch out these seats have some fun with them too :P. I think I might part out the good parts and screw around with the rest.

cut off the front end and take the engine out.. turn it into a sweet backyard grill.. then have a barbecue..

put it in neutral or park..whatever...and hold the gas to the floor and wait till something blows...ive always wanted to do that..

i dunno why, but i have always wanted to do that too.. lol i guess i just like when things break.. lol

You should be lucky if that thing is blown up... The 2.8's are the worst engine GM came out with. Every car that I have come across with one in it was making some sort of fatal noise.

i hear that my 2.8 was making a terrible valve tick and thumping noises coming from tranny...i think it was the 10 foot strip (dont ask me how i did it i have no idea) that really put it out of its misery

I dont know man.. ive had 3 2.8 camaros, and 1 2.8 blazer 4x4 and ive beat the livin' $hit out of all of em and Never had one fail on me.. Sure they made some godawful noises, and barely had enough power to pull the car.. But they still got me where I needed to go!

Well if I dont find any holes in the block i might just throw some oil in if it needs to be topped up, and if i stil.l dont see it, time to pull out the camera and make a little video :)
