Interior lights

I have a `98 1500 quad cab 2wd a few weeks ago my ash tray light and the light above my cup holders went out overnight. I checked all my fuses and replaced both bulbs but they still don`t work. No power at the bulb housings and I don`t know where i gets its power from. I was surprised that there were no blown fuses everything else seems to work. I`ve had electrical problems before, this truck was built in canada and had daytime running lights one day about two years ago they quit and my lights would stay on even with the headlight switch off and the ignition off. I went to a dealer to find out where the daytime running light realy was and they told me there is none. Well after looking around I found a box on the fender that the back of it had some kind of gel that leaked out of it i took the part # off of it and went back to the dealer to find out what it was. Well guess what it was the same relay the told me didnt exist. so $68 later my lighting problem was fixed. About a year later they quit again but everything else worked fine so I wasn`t about to buy another relay again, I never cared much for the daytime runnong lights anyways. I just wanted to find out if anyone else has had any problems with the ashtray/ cupholder light maybe point me in the right direction. I don`t want to have to tear the entire dash apart but it would be nice to have them back thanks in advance

Seriously though, it might pay to trace the wire back from the ash tray, see where it leads, then test voltage at each junction point back.

I think that I may have to since no fuses were blown it leads me to believe I have a hot wire just laying around inside the dash possibly grounding out sure would hate for it to burn up. I just figured I would ask around you know how they build them these days I thought maybe they were known to rub through in a specific spot

LOL that's funny.

I kind of think it's just a wire worn through at some point. When I had my dome light out before I noticed the wire looked like it was squished right at the corner where the wire turns.

About the running lights, there's a plug on the inner fender on the driver's side, under the hood. My running lights wouldn't turn off even after the key was turned off, so I unplugged this. It's not a very big plug, and it's the only one in that area on the fender, just to the right of the battery.

I don't know of any spots where there may be rubbing; but usually the wires run past the driver's door under the floor plate, you could have some wear at that point.

I`ll try to dig into it this weekend if I find anything I`ll post it

Dam, busted.

Just thought I`d let eveyone know I never even had a chance to find my wiring problem the same weekend I was going to try again my truck was stolen. The police recovered it but its in bad shape not sure if I`m going to fix it or scrap it mainly just cosmetic damage, turned out some kids took it for a joyride wish I could get my hands on them

Damn, that sucks. Punks. Well on the bright side you've got a choice to keep it and try to win the insurance lotto, or let it go (hand over heart with head bowed) and start looking for a new truck.
