Some general questions

Hi,
I am new here and this is my first post. I'm looking for some rather basic information. This is probably going to be long, so bear with me here.

First of all, I'm driving a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. I bought it from a dealer auction a year and a half ago because my Camry was on its LAST legs. I don't claim to know anything about racing stats or times. I never really cared one way or the other. I was merely a 21 year old college student trying to survive. Not a racer. Now, I had driven that Camry for years and only encountered one "street race" and that was just with a friend with whom there was no real competition. I think we just wanted an excuse to go fast. I had no clue exactly how street races started, what was the point, etc, but suddenly I had teenagers stopping me in gas stations, fast food joints, etc, wanting to know if I'd like to race. I never did. I got stopped by some stock Civics and Sunfires and that sort of thing, but they all wanted to race on crowded city streets at peak times. No thanks.

Now a few months prior to all of this, a friend of mine had been given a 2002 Mustang--3.8, purely stock, and automatic, but my goodness if it wasn't a beautiful machine. He bragged on it constantly in the beginning and I can't say I blamed him. Like I said, impressive car, there's just so many of them.

Then things turned personal. I did not begin all of this but I am bound and determined to finish it. When I purchased the car I drove straight to his house. He'd just gotten the Mustang and we'd both driven pretty crappy cars before that so I assumed he'd be happy for me now that we both had a decent ride. He was happy for me--to a point. I never meant to start up conflict, but when I got out of the car another of our friends was standing there and, slapping our Mustang-owning buddy on the back, said, "Well, looks like you held the title for a least a little while, bro" and laughed.

A couple of months go by and more and more people start pitting our cars against one another. My Mustang-sporting friend who had initially kept his cool, began to drop comments here and there concerning how my car would not be able to keep up with him. It turned to private discussions. A lot of time has gone by and this can't go on any longer. There is NOWHERE and I mean nowhere for us to race where we live.

So basically, now that you know the story, does anyone know a website where I could find racing stats for a Mustang vs. a GTP? I'm hella curious. I know this race has to have been raced before. I don't know who would win, but the pressure has gotten entirely too intense.

Sorry for such a long post you guys and I'd appreciate unmodified personal stats on these cars as well.

Thanks.

well since he has a v6 stang thats a 3.8, he should be a 15 second car if its a 5 speed. if its a 3.8 stang, then those are 17 second cars.

you have a gtp, you have waaaay more potential right off the bat then he does. your car is also faster then his in stock trim ( only by alittle ), you get a intake, a chip, header, exhuast and a pulley and you'll be running with mach1's, and your friend with the v6 stang would need a supercharger kit to keep up/ beat you.

there is a guy here name jeffsgtpsleeper who run's 12's and he destroyed a 400hp bmw m5 from a stop and from a roll. so you should be able to do the same too if you do similar mods.

Dude, you would wipe his ass all over the street...those supercharged GTPs are quick...those auto 3.8 stangs are low 16 second cars on the best day...your car is a low 15 second car on an average day.

You should be able to beat the mustang easily. I know a guy here in Mobile that has a GTP.. they're pretty quick cars.

Your confusing me wise one. the v6 stang is a 17 sec car auto and 16 sec manual right? how the hell does a v6 make 15 sec?

anyway, yeah Acidreiyne your car is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much faster. I run 15.3 at best and I know the GTP will wipe the floor with me, on the other hand I dont even bother with V6 stangs cause they are just too slow in stock or BPU trim.

you cant race him? gimme a break bro, you got streets where you live? you got traffic lights? go out at 11:00 or 12:00 p.m. when traffic is dead and run him! its that simple, and get over the whole "what if cops catch me" crap. Cops are not invisible and they are not mind readers, if you dont see em around then guess what..........THEY'RE NOT AROUND!

or you could tell your friend there to join this forum and we will be more then happy to make him cry cause he is so missinformed! Actually the real idiot is the guy who said "well looks like you held the title for a little while" WHAT TITLE? biggest newbie? my little sister could tell you those cars are slow.

Disclaimer: there is nothing wrong with driving a V6 Mustang! different cars for different people. there is however a big problem when you act like big shit without any means of backing it up. know your place and know who you can mess with and who you should respect.

GTP. Hands down. A guy around here embarassed himself in his new Civic hatchback about a week ago. He pulled up to a stoplight and revved against and GTP because he didn't see that's what it was. Less than 20 secs later the guy slowed down, laughed at him, and then left. The hatchback is running mid-15's w/some mods (Don't know what) and the GTP was stock. I say race him. Good chance the cops will only catch the slowest one.

yes you will destroy him. V6 mustangs are slow as poop on a cold day (no idea what that means, just sounds fun). And when you race, you dont need to go all fast and furious to over 100 MPH. I guarantee by 70 MPH you will have atleast 2-3 car lengths on him. At that point you can declare a nice and easy victory.

Smart money is on you, but everyones already said that. Go race, and come back and tell us about it. I personally like goin up agasint the older V6s because most of the owners (not all of them) think they're hot shit, and its fun shutin them up in a 'sports sedan'.

You're right. It's time to hush my buddy up. He's a sore loser at everything and especially with me. I mentioned to him that we needed to go out and "handle this" but he didn't seem too enthusiastic about it. As a matter of fact, he said it was probably a bad idea since my car is older than his and might develop some engine trouble or something as a result of racing it. I should have known.

But, he'll put his money where his mouth is in front of other people. No backing down. I'm going out of town soon but when I get back, one way or another, I'll have my race and I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all of your help.

Oh, by the way, thought some people might get a kick out of this, I did. I had somebody tell me recently since all of this has hit the fan that, if I race him and win and want to pour salt in the wound, to tell him that GTP stands for "get that pony" lol

V6 mustangs are in no way shape or form fast. When I had a stock civic, I'd give V6s a hell of a run for their money. If it was a GT...you'd be getting owned...but yeah, you'll take him.

First off...i'd take your 98 GTP ANY DAY OF THE MOF*CKIN WEEK........

Any mustang with a 6 IS a bitch car-period. Lol, tell that dude that, tell em "i see lot's of fat blondes driving those lately". Seriously, it's a girl car. Unless of coarse you do some major sh*t to it....even then, a mustang NEEDS a V8.

I'd take a V8 stang over a supercharged V6 stang...know what i mean...even if the V8 was slower.

I haven't seen a dude driving an LS1 SS camaro or WS6 trans am in soooooooooo long. But does that make it a girls car? Fuck no it doesn't. About..a month ago. I saw the NICEST WS6 trans am ever. It was sooo clean looking. I happen to see whose driving it...and it's a fat highschool age teen girl with blue hair. A tear, rolled down my cheek as I wept for that poor LS1 fbody. It still makes me sad...:(

mmmm.....GTP....... yep. Thats what I plan on having when my Thunderbird goes kaput. Either thata or a Maxima SE 5-Speed. I want a fast affordable 4-door.

And yea, there used to be a Sunset Orange Metallic Firebird Formula WS6 Convertable running around here, and some cute blonde chick was driving it. Everytime I saw her I was in my SS, but going the opposite directon :)

Igovert500...well, i believe most women don't know how to drive. :loser:

Most women do not have the kinship with cars like men do. :smokin:

Most girls that drive a V6 stang aka "bitch-stang" are fat, early 20's blondes-the same ones that wear JUICY pants (printed on that fat ass). :cwm27:

I didn't say anything about men being better then woman on working on cars..or whatever the hell else you said. One thing i can tell you, is that you have problems.... :loser:

The only girl I know who drives a V6 stang changes her own oil and the first time I saw her do it I thought it was the most impressive thing I'd ever seen.

On that note, I will say this--no disrespect to women, but I will agree with solaris on the point that most women do not have the same relationship with driving and with their cars that men do. There isn't anything wrong with that, its just the way it is.

I'm not gonna lie, you could take all the knowledge about cars that I DON'T have and fill a library with it, but as a rule men have more car knowlege than women. And there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that I hate more than weaving around soccer moms on their cell phones in 5:00 traffic....or soccer moms that have "DAVY #9 LITTLE LEAGUE ALL-STAR CHAMPION" imprinted on the back of the Explorer in letters so large that any attempts to see what could possibly be behind her are an exercise in futility--of course, that's a miniscule issue when the alternate option is to NOT let the world know that her baby likes baseball.

I'm probably gonna get creamed for saying that, but don't tell me you've never encountered it.

Meh...only thing that really means is that they're rich. There's a girl I went to school with who's parents are rich as hell and they bought here a 350z. Doesn't mean she's a good driver, just means she's a future Paris Hilton.

there's no tellin how good a girl can drive, and what they bought there car for. i see a chick in a Z06 vette out here with a license plate that says "CLOCKME"

my mother is actually one of the best drivers i know, on the other hand, my aunties suck at driving, and my grandma wont even get on the freeway.

again my dad is probably the best driver i know and my cousin tony sucks, i'm afraid every time i get in the car with him.

cars were made by men, men have a passion with them. women can have the same passion we have but its rare.
there are more women on earth then men, though there are 4 times more men on this site alone then women.
men take pride in driving as women take pride in there nails.
men will by a k&n filter for there car and women will by shoes.

this is just how it is. of course there are women that love cars of course, and we car freaks tend to love a women who loves cars.
but they are rare.

Why does he have problems? cause he is doing his job and maintaining this thread clean? Dude I see your point and yeah I have to play zig-zag all morning long with people who drive with absolutely no objective. but dont bash girls, lots of girls can drive hella good. My wife for one is a hell of an exception. she bought her own project car, sourced out her own parts and tuned her own suspension. she did her home work, found a very rare, very powerfull, very full of potential little 86 Starion and towed it home. after a head job and a new radiator she got it running and now shes got serious brake and suspension mods done and a whole new motor rebuilt on its way. hell I recieved the new jet valve elliminator kit last night! She does it with her own money, on her own time and by herself since I'm too buisy at work to help out. granted for one of her there are 20 that dont know the dif between motor oil and coolant but its this kind of attitude that deters them away from learning.

1) If women are more of a liability than men...why do males from the ages of 16-25 have the highest insurance rates country-wide

2) Keep it clean.

3) You are welcome to your opinions, if you want to think that way, then fine, I can't change that...but you will respect other members of this board, and the moderators. Consider this a warning.

It's true, men do have higher insurance rates regardless of the fact that women get into more accidents. My insurance agent even showed me the facts. Nothing I can do about that. But I do believe men tend to get into the more serious accidenst compared to women, thus is which is why I believe we have the higher insurance.

I have been watching that NOPI Tunervision on Speed Channel and there's this girl, I think her name is Lisa Kubo (or something like that), who is just one amazing driver. I think she drives the AEM Ion and gets that car down the track in the 7's.

Solaris, women can drive just as well. The only thing your proving is that you are a true sexist who think men are superior to all women. Smarten up. STFU and please, answer Igoverts first question. I'd love to see your answer.
