I have a 2002 4.0 TJ, 40K, well maintained. When restarting after engine is warm, engine does not catch, and sounds like battery is draining. If I wait a few minutes and try again most times it starts right up. When the engine is cold No problems. The only scheduled maintenance not done is fuel filter replacement, (is it in the fuel pump in the gas tank?). Also had battery checked and was told it tested fine. Strange thing is, my friend has a 2002 2.5 auto and it is starting same thing with much less mileage 25K. I would be grateful for any insights. Thank you in advance.

Do a search on this forum, the same problem has been had by other folks too. It could be the crank position sensor, a failing fuel pump or a clog in the fuel filter if I recall correctly.
