Got this from AIM news...

http://cnn.aimtoday.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?idq=/ff/story/0001/20050126/1612323498.htm

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A medical examiner studying a body in a morgue was startled when the man took a shallow breath.

Emergency medical technicians had declared 29-year-old Larry D. Green dead almost two hours earlier, after he was hit by a car.

Medical examiner J.B. Perdue was called to the accident scene Monday but did not examine Green then. Later, he was documenting Green's injuries when he noticed the man was breathing.

``I had to look twice myself just to make sure it was there, that's how subtle it was,'' Perdue said.

Green, 29, was taken to Duke University Medical Center in Durham, where he was in critical condition Tuesday.

Several members of the Franklin County emergency medical service have been suspended pending an investigation, said Darnell Batton, the county attorney.

Lucky they figured out before they buried him.

Luckier yet that the examiner noticed this before he started his "probing".

Reminds me of the whole story where they got the expression "Saved by the bell".

Read up on it, it's quite interesting

Dingle dingle, dig me up, I'm not dead.

Anyway, considering one of the first things done in alot of post-mortem exams is taking a large knife and cutting the chest open, yeah, its a pretty good thing they noticed.

This reminds me of a Russian or Ukrainian guy who was shot (i think) and declared dead some years ago.

A few days later when the doctors started to cut him up in the postmortem he took a huge breath. He wasn't actually dead and had been kept alive by the refrigeration process.

Actually i was watching the Anatomy for Beginners programme on C4 (uk) last night, where this German doctor basically cuts up dead people. It's very graphic and not for the faint hearted. Highly recommended to anyone who gets UK television.

Anyway, i was watching it with a friend of mine who used to study medicine, and he told me some pranks the students used to pull. Not sure if i believe him, but some people would take severed penises from the hospital, go to a toilet in a pub, slip the severed penis out of a bag and into the urinal (when there's someone next to them) and just start to scream...

true or not, what a great prank

That reminds me of the story about the guy who was in the car crash and WAS dead medically for a few hours, and when he was about to be autopsied, the woke up, he had a near-death experience.

damn that sucks imagine waking up next to other dead bodies in the morgue.

I'd think it would be better to wake up in the morgue than not at all :D

I wonder if anyone took the time to put a stethoscope to his chest? Hope he turns out ok.

Adressing that hole "Saved By The Bell Thing". I was at the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum in Niagara Falls for New Year's and they said that in England, because of so many people being burried alive because of doctors thinking they were dead but weren't. They attached a bell to every coffin so if the person woke up, they can ring the bell and someone would come dig them up. It also generatedthe whole Grave Yard Shift bit.

Cool museum, isn't it? Been awhile for me though.

It's true, there are many stories of bells being rung, coffins being dug up that had the insides scratched away, stuff like that. (Lots of urban legends, too) As medical science has improved there's been less and less of that, now they make sure that most people are thoroughly and completely dead before they go into the ground. :)

Took me and my gf 1.5 hrs to get through the whole thing. I have loads of pictures of inside.
