Rice or not?

Not really street racing, but I was wondering ya'lls opinions on this...

I'm thinking about picking up some DTMPower.net stickers (15 bucks for four, and I'll only be putting two on my car), in order to support the website, and cuz they dont look all that bad. However, my room amte thinks that stickers are rice period, unless your sponsored, and that if I put them on my car, I'd be just as bad as any other ricer. I don't think I will be. I'm just wondering what you all think about this, your opinions and what not.

If you do end up putting stickers on it, the only place that is acceptable in my mind is going to be the rear driverside window.

CassiesMan
01-26-2005, 09:21 PM
THats what I was gonna do, rear windows, not the big 'DTM POWER, THE FUTURE OF BMW TUNNING' ones that go on the front and rear windows...I mean, its not like I'm buying a AA or UUC or Dinan sticker...

I don't think website stickers are rice since you're not trying to "show off" your mods.

I would never do it though.

dtmpower.net is a good site tho. Personally I think they need to get back to some techademic videos for funds. I dont think it is rice because it doesnt state anything you dont have. However, I agree with the not my taste. Remember tho, everyone here can think what they want, but YOU drive the car.

It's your car, do what you like. Personally, I think as long as your not putting a Honda, Acura, or some other type of import brand name on your car, then it's alright. Take some pics and show what it looks like. You'd be surprised how you can change other's opinions through pics. Late...

Yeah, it's really not rice...now if you were like "IM PUTTING A BIG TYPE-R STICKER, A GT-R BADGE, A POWERED BY HONDA STICK, AND A VTEC STICKER ON MY CAR" I'd be bashing your ass and telling you that you don't deserve a BMW.

I wouldn't see what the big deal is. I have stickers all over my race car of various parts that are used, or have been used before (Crane Cams, Hooker Headers, etc.). So I really don't see the big deal.

I have a small flowmaster sticker on the rear window of my truck as well as a Budweiser 'Born on Date' sticker that looks like the hood from Dale Jrs. race car from the Daytona 500 last year. I really dont see the big deal.

If anybody calls that rice, then that's just being too picky IMO.

I have a website sticker of my tuner(ls1truck) on one side of my back glass and a scandelous street racing sticker on the other side. Both are small. I also have a sticker across the front windshield of the company that supplies about 90% of my aftermarket parts(Thunder Racing).

Under the hood on the radiator shroud, I have stickers from just about every company that has stock in the truck. Hey, It's gotten me plenty of free t-shirts from sponsors at track events that see the stickers.

i'm gunna get parts stickers for my car too but smaller discreet ones that will match the color scheme i'm going for

its definitely not rice if it isn't like a monster sized APC sticker on front, back, sides and on the spoiler...
around here thats the only rice we have besides kitted and racing striped neons....

I have a small "HKS power and sports" sticker toward the back of my drivers side back window(in case you are wondering, it's legit, I have an HKS exhaust system)....and a small 3"x5" "powered by nissan" sticker on my back window...I don't think anyone ever sees it though, so it's kinda pointless...I say that if the stickers are no bigger than 5"x7", then it isn't rice.

*warning, big rant*

i read your post and i got pissed. who the fudge cares? it's your car, your not saying that the sticker will magically give you 10 hp or boost your times on the track. you are doing it solely for the reason that you want to. No it's not rice... rice is not putting stickers on a car... hell i got a alabama football sticker on my windsheld... oooh you know me... i'm so rice.

but seriously. who cares about what your roomate thinks? if he wants to be a prick about it, tell him to take it to the streets. if he even drives. i know alot of people at my college who talk alot of smack but ride their bicycles to class because they don't have a car.

do what you want to do, if you like the sticker and for the love of GOD please support these places... that's why they sell the stickers, not to just sit in a drawer and collect dust... it's absolute crap to buy a sticker that you want to put on your car and not do it becase you are afraid of what someone thinks. it's that mentality that allows us to push ourselfs backwards instead of thrust ourselves forewards.

so in short, sorry for the rant, but do it. do what you want and tell him if he thinks it's rice, then he's just a retard.

Theres an old beat up minivan around here that has a giant APC sticker across the back window.hahahaha

I say the sticker is fine. You can always remove it. The only sticker I really want is a small "Turbo by Garrett" sticker.

Stickers/vinyl/paint are all personal preference.
Personally I would not put anything on my car unless it was a true sponsorship (contigency sponsors are okay by me :) ).

See here (you guys might find this entertaining):
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5553423188

The fact is your car is a rolling bill board and if people want to advertise there, then they should offer something in return (cash, parts, woman, booze, whatever you agree on)
.
Now, if you feel like offering space on your car for nothing in return, that is your call. Whatever floats your boat.

undergroundkillah..putting a sports team sticker on your car is in no way shape or form rice. nor is a band sticker, a 'support our troops' sticker or any of those type of things. It's when you put performance part manufacturers stickers and such on your car that you don't have any parts by. When I finally find a good one to get, I'm going to get a license plate frame from my favorite parts manufacturer. I like that more because it's easier to remove than a sticker. But that's my personal tastes. I say go for it, cassiesman.

If you do end up putting stickers on it, the only place that is acceptable in my mind is going to be the rear driverside window.

My thoughts exactly.

I would never stick any stickers on my car besides the any moldings or decals that came on it even if they were sponsors. However, to me rice is more of a state of mind. Stickers can be rice but as long as they serve a purpose and are placed well they aren't really rice.

I think I would, as long as it was small...
By him placing a DTMpower sticker on his car, he is showing support towards the site, and helping it grow. It is a great site, and if he wants to support it, it is not rice. Same goes for AF.

I have two stickers on my truck, "Supercharged 5.9 R/T" on the tailgate and a small "GS Motorsports" sticker on the back window, since that's where I get a lot of my stuff and I get great deals. I have no problem with a couple of stickers of either shops or sites that you support. But I absolutely loath anyone that puts stickers on their vehicles from other vehicles (the "Type R" crap, fake GT's and Cobra's, etc.). That kind of stuff does not make your car look better, it makes you look stupid :loser:

I had one that I was going to put on my old GTC before it was wrecked. AF used to sell some, I don't know if they still do.

You probally wouldnt hold those sponsors for too long then, thats pretty much the agreement on a sponsorship.

Which is why the GTC project will most likely be coming completely out of my pocket. If it were only a race car then I would, but since the GTC is a street car that I wouldn't mind being able to take to a car show if at all possible I don't want to put any stickers on it.

man, seriously you guys need to lay off the rice/anti rice thing. Who gives a rats patootie if you have a Mugen or VTEC sticker on your car? i mean really... most people see a civic with a honda sticker and say "oohhh look at that Fag! in a slow ass civic" while they have no clue what the guy has done to it. Its stupid to judge a car by its exterior. being a civic owner myself. ( no stickers, just a paint job and integra ls rims)( on the exterior). i get SO much shit from people when i cruise downtown.. because no one knows whats under the hood ( a b18c5) with basic bolt on's... i mean my favorite thing is to beat a mustang owner (nothing against stangs, just all stang owners around here are cocky as butt) that has been talking the shiot all day..

ANyways im ranting and off topic. im just trying to say even IF the car has NO performance mods, but sports a JIMUNGUS POWERED BY HONDA sticker, dont hate, the guy is just doing what he likes, and running on a low budget... in other words... trying to get into the racing scene, but low on cash, and all of us has been there at one point or another. so please Rice or no Rice- Dont matter
