Problem with Lights

I have a 93 Explorer Limited. Went out to start it and the battery was dead. When we charged it we found the headlights, dash lights and tail lights were on and the anti-theft was going crazy. We took it down and had the alarm removed but now the lights all stay on. We tried to replace the headlamp relay but when we removed it the headlights went out but the dash and tail lights still are on. We took it to an auto electric place and after 2 days he said it is the turn signal switch that went bad. Does this sound right or does anyone have any more suggestions. Thanks Kim

As silly as this sounds, disconnect your battery for 10 minutes. Reconnect and see if your problems go away. By disconnecting the battery it forces all control modules to reset themselves. I have a chrysler product that did a similiar thing. Battery went dead and I had light issues when recharged. It worked for me.

We actually put a new battery in because the draw killed the battery. Now because of the lights always being on I have to disconnect the negative. The stupid lights just wont turn off any other way. Thanks though.

My truck has a similar problem, the head lights don't want to come on, just the parking lights. But like the other guy said, it has to do with the turn signal switch. My right turn blinker does not work. I have to hold it in order for it to blink, while blinking twice as fast a the left turn light.

My turn signals and flashers work fine. My high beams work fine too. Wouldn't I have a problem with those if my turn signal switch was bad?

Turn switch doesn't make sense to me. It shouldn't have anything to do with Lights on or off. Do you have daytime running lights?

No daytime running lights. It does have the auto delay with the sensor in the rearview mirror. I have moved the lever and tried the on/off button but nothing changes.

My explorer is different year but I'm looking through the schematics to see if you have a common denominator. You said alarm was going crazy. Do your headlights flash during alarm or stay steady? You said you had the alarm taken care of...........what do you mean taken care of? Headlights, park lights (not sure about dash) are tied into alarm system. Need to know how alarm was taken care of.

I took the car to an alarm store and they removed the brain and a bunch of other stuff. Its all in a pile on the floor of the car.

The lights were staying on constant. The car hadn't been driven for a week before we noticed the problem so they could have started flashing and then went to constant. The horn had already been diconnected from the alarm. The reason I knew it was the alarm was the clicking from the box under the dash by the pedals and the anti-theft light.

The box you hear clicking is the Generic Electronic Module. It receives inputs from all your door,hood,tailgate switches. I'm only guessing but the "brain" you said someone removed, was that mounted on the inside of vehicle back by wheel well? If so that was the RAP module (remote anti-theft personality module). These modules talk to each other. The GEM, I believe is responsible for your lights coming on. The best I can do for you is tell you to check all you door switches and make sure they are working. If they all seem ok, you may have a problem with the Generic Electronic Module.
