V6 2nd Gen Eclipse? mmmmkay....

Ok today at school im talking to this girl about her car, a 97 eclipse, I asked her if it was a turbo model and she said, and I quote "It used to be but we took out the motor and put a 6 cylindar motor and a stage 3 supercharger" I gigled inside but played dumb so i woulndt make her feel stupid. haha please tell me this is imposible so i dont feel crazy.

If I am not mistaken some of the eclipses came with a stock V6, so they may have picked that up and put it in. I am not sure if that is possible or what, but I am reasonably sure that some came stock like that (without the supercharger). but don't quote me on it.

3G's come stock with a v6 in some models. but no 2g ever came stock with a v6. i dont know if its possible or not but get some pics if you can. it sounds cool even thought the handling would change because of more weight in the front.

1g, 2g, not a chance, only 3Gs have V6. unless she pulled the 2g 4G63 and put in a 3G V6, then again, WTF would you do that. supercharging a 2G, not sure if it's possible, there's only so much room inside the engine compartment.

No first or second generation eclipse ever came with a 6 cylinder. However, 3g eclipses come with a V6 as an option. She's full of shit anyway.

i once had a girl tell me her 97 grand prix gtp was turbocharged... even when i opened the hood and pointed out the supercharger to her she maintained it was turbocharged..

My point is some girls don't know up form down when it comes to what makes a car "go". They prolly just make it up as they go. lol

naw u can fit a 6 cylinder into a eclipse... infact mitsubishi made a 2.5L V6 in 1998 that is not to big and can be shimmied into the engine compartment... i dunno if i could squeeze a supercharger into my car but im sure the V6 would fit and u know... i bet its not stock... but there has been so many little rumors of V6 eclipses that maby mitsubishi built a fer in there for the 1999 models... since they were out of the DSM deal at that time and could do what they wanted... knowing what a supercharger is is sorta impressive for a chick... i mean the fact she knew what engine WAS in her car if impressive for most girls... im betting shes telling the truth... go back to her and ask to take some pics of her engine I WANNA SEE IT!!

yup that be the cirrus engine its a 2.5 L V6 it puts out 168HP and 170 Fl. LBs of torque... lets just say turbo charge that and u got a beast! only bad thing is its high compression so hard to run alot of boost and nitro

the next question is how hard is it to do and do u get enough HP for the cost

I dont think she is lying... I have personally seen this eclipse and rode in it. The V-6 makes a big difference from a stock 420a thats for sure! He said he got the motor/tranny and ECU/harness for free so he swapped it in there. I could see someone doing it if their motor is shot but not taking a running 420a out and doing the swap. He said he had plans to put a super charger on it and make some good times and I sure as hell believe him, expecially after seeing all the parts he hasnt put on the car yet. :iceslolan

Thats just like someone putting a 1.8L DOHC VTEC motor into a civic that use to have a 1.5L SOHC motor.

Not a lot of power but yet they had to work at it to get the motor to run good.

sometimes i guess people just want to be different. it IS an interesting thing to look at, a 2G with a V6. just like Dre's chopped eclipse.

whoa...that's a crazy picture. Never thought about that, but up here, i've seen a VR4 motor swapped into a 2g Eclipse, ill try to get some pics up this summer when i see it tho. But the part where lots of people say "i gotta stage 4 (forced induction), they're lying, cuz they would've known what stage four or what ever number they bought. hahahahaha, its funny when people talk like that. "i gotta stage 6 turbo in my sohc vtec!!!" lmao.

the minute you hear "Stage # turbo kit!" from somebody, you KNOW:

1) They play too much Gran Turismo
2) Have no clue what a turbo does
3) Have a moped
4) Are under 18 years of age

Before yall go off on the poor girl, think of this. A 6g72 n/t would fit a 2g engine bay. The motor mounts are similar. The tranny mounts up to the same side. I beleive that the first gen Stealth/3000GT has a similar awd tranny as the GSX/TSi awd. A non turbo stealth is superchargable, too. I have seen the 2g stealth/3000 twin turbo motor in a 2g dsm, but the owner settled for a 60 trim single turbo instead of the stock two. There was very little modification to make it work unlike I originaly thought. The biggest mod was the hood to be exact. and that monster fmic. I wish I still had pics of some of the insane rides at that show. My favorite one was the 10 second dodge. It was a total sleeper. 91 colt vista awd with a well built 4g63t. Ah well, I will try to find the pics and hook yall up.

I agree with Joewagon being that im the only person that knows this girl and she dosent seem like type to do such a mod. I mean comeon its just not cost effective how much u think that would be to have done at a garage?
