unless his engine is new, then he will want to run normal 10w-30 in it until it is broken in.

One more ?. I have been using 10w40 penzoil and i have been loosing oil. Would this problem be because im not using synthetic oil? Im not burning it. Im not sure where it is going.

Well if you're sure you're not burning then you better start looking for leaks. Front and rear main seals, oil pan, drain plug, oil filter, valve covers. Just remember nothing leaks upward so where-ever there is oil it's probably from above where it's sitting, not where it is sitting.

oil never leaks up huh? i've had a few cars that could spray oil from a leaking pan all the way up and coat the hood insulation.

How much oil is it loosing? It is normal for a GSR to use some oil. ;)

I add about 4 quarts a month. Not including oil changes.

4 quarts a month!!!!! holy crap whats the point of changing the oil if you put 4 quarts a month in... but seriously that is way too much oil to loose. You need to have it checked out. because there may be a big problem.
just for reference my integra has 170,000 miles on it and I'll use slightly more than 1 quart every 3000 miles or about 2 months.

Yes 4 qts is way too much to be loosing. Do you have any oil puddles under the car after it has been sitting for a while? Is there any smoke when you drive the car?

isn't it 5w30 in a GSR until like after 60,000 miles?

If you live in a warm climate where it never gets cold then you can run 10w-30 other than that yes you want to run 5w-30.

My gs-r says right in the acura owners manual 10w-30 unless you will be in climates below something like -20

Yes but the only difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 is that the viscosity is 5 vs 10 whne the oil is cold. Once the oil warms up (motor warms up) the viscosity is the same between the two oils. 5w-30 oil will not hurt a GSR ;) Actually in my manual it says 5w-30 is perfered.

Hi, I have a 1997 Honda Civic with a B18c1 in it. I was wondering what type of oil to use in it. I traded it and the oil left with out saying what type of oil to use. It’s full bolt on and I live in Arizona so it’s hot all the time.
