back from shop...high idle rpm

I just got my rodeo back from the shop after fixing a bad alternator (second one in 5 years) and changing the valve cover gasket. I drove the 95' rodeo V6 off about 5 miles and let it sit for about half an hour. when I got back into the car and started it, i noticed the rpm's were around 2k which seemed rather high to me. When I put it in drive it dropped down to 1k and ran as normal. After a 15 minute drive I got back home and the idle was still rather fast. I have a carb cleaner which I used to loosen and nasty stuff (technical term) from the throttle and it didn't really do much. I can manually push the throttle from the engine down to a normal throttle speed. Any ideas on why this could be causing this? Even better, any idea how I can fix it so that I don't ruin my brakes cause of such a high rpm?
I must also add that i had problems about 4 months ago with my accelorator sticking which was fixed with the carb cleaner and haven't really had problems later. My assumption is that the engine is either adjusting to the additions or that something has changed since the pieced it back together again. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Jonathan

have you removed the rubber dust boot on the accel cable?

search for it here

I think that was half the problem...the rubber dust boot seems to have melted/evaporated and some of it got caught on the cable its self so I've had to pull tiny pieces out intermittently through the past couple months. as of right now, there is no rubber dust boot on there but the cable seems pretty tight and will not ease up to the normal idle position on its own without pushing it down. I let it sit for a few minutes with it on but it did not rev down. I don't know if its the cable itself or the springs that recoil it.
