Fuel gauge problem

My 2003 Explorer fueld gauge will not show full after fill up. The guage goes up slowly as I'm driving, it takes about 40 minutes of driving time before it shows full. If I fill it up and park it overnite the gauge does not move at all. Does anyone have an answer??

My 2003 just started doing that 2 weeks ago. After I filled the tank, and turned it on, it went all the way up to full. Then about 30 sec. later I had my check guage lite come on and needle went to E. Now Every fill up, I have this same problem.........

If you are gassing up with the ignition on, your level indicator will be slow moving up to Correct level. Try fueling with ignition off. For the second post, there is an amplifier circuit in your instrument cluster that works hand in hand with your fuel gauge. The contacts between the 2 are spring loaded.(not necessarily a spring...could be just the shape of the contact that causes it to spring back) I had a chevy whose speedometer used to die because this metallic contact got depressed too far and lost contact with board. Bend the contact back out a little and it was fine. Pull the cluster and check it out.

My 91 used to register FULL after a fill-up until one very cold night, maybe -20F, after which it never reaches full anymore. The last quarter tank holds the most gas, I get almost 150 miles on the last quarter tank. The speedo registers false reports at cold temps also, much faster than actual.
